The new WoW The War Within Evoker class is one of the major additions to the game. This new class is very tough to use and isn’t exactly for beginners at that. To use it, you’ll need to have a character for the new Dracthyr race but players are hoping that the Evoker will be available in other races in the future.
You might be having a tough time mastering the new Evoker class and its specs but worry not. This guide will help you understand how to master the draconian class in WoW before you’re left behind by your friends.

Devastation Evoker
Best Talents for Leveling Your Devastation Evoker
The Scale Commander talent is the standout choice for leveling as a Devastation Evoker in The War Within. This talent currently outperforms alternatives like Flame Shaper in nearly every scenario.
To optimize your build, we suggest the following steps for arranging your talents effectively:
- Start in the middle section of your talent tree. Here, focus on talents that improve your maneuverability and flow of gameplay.
- Next, head over to the left side of the tree and prioritize Melt Armor, which boosts your overall damage output significantly.
- Finally, move to the right side of the tree, where you can choose between Unrelenting Siege or Hardened Scales. Opt for Hardened Scales if you feel you need the extra survivability during challenging encounters. Once this is set, complete the rest of your tree with complementary talents.
The structure of this build supports both powerful burst damage and consistent pressure, giving you the flexibility to tackle everything from group pulls to challenging elite mobs.
Why Choose Scale Commander?
Scale Commander offers two major benefits that enhance both your damage output and overall gameplay experience:
- Mass Disintegrate: This ability is central to the playstyle, as it automatically targets multiple enemies when you use an empowered spell. Not only does this boost your AoE and single-target damage, but it also triggers dragon bombardments. The effect comes with a unique sound design that you’ll quickly become familiar with (yes, you’ll hear it a lot).
- Improved Deep Breath: With this talent, Deep Breath becomes a point-and-click ability, removing the need for a targeting reticle. This simplifies its use and increases its damage potential, making it a core part of your rotation.
Additionally, talents like Melt Armor ensure that your enemies take more damage from your Disintegrate and bombardments, with a 20% vulnerability effect.
Combining this with the improved Deep Breath, you’ll find yourself capable of significant burst damage even in single-target scenarios. Talents such as Lay Waste and Onyx Legacy further boost the value of Deep Breath, ensuring its place in your rotation.
Talent Build Options: Single-Target vs. Cleave
Depending on the content you’re tackling, you can adjust your build for single-target or cleave-focused encounters. Here’s how to optimize for each:
Single-Target Build:
- Focus on Lay Waste and Onyx Legacy, as these talents maximize the power of your empowered abilities.
- For situations with minimal cleave, avoid Eternity Span, as it’s unnecessary for pure single-target encounters.
- Instead, invest in talents like Eye of Infinity, which improves your focus on Disintegrate uptime, ensuring a smooth and high-damage rotation.
Cleave Build:
- In scenarios where you’ll face multiple targets, prioritize Eternity Span and Event Horizon, as these talents extend the effectiveness of your AoE spells.
- Charged Blast becomes especially useful in cleave situations, amplifying the damage of your next Pyre or Dragonrage after a few stacks. This synergy makes it a valuable addition in fights involving three or more targets, commonly found in Mythic+ and raid cleave scenarios.
While Charged Blast doesn’t align as well with single-target builds due to point constraints, it truly shines in multi-target engagements, where the stacking buff translates into massive AoE pressure.
Ideal Stats, Gear, and Consumables
Stats:
- Critical Strike remains the top priority for Devastation Evokers due to its synergy with your talents and abilities.
- After crit, your secondary stat priority will depend on your current gear, with Haste generally taking second place. Always simulate your character to determine the exact stat weights for your setup.
Best Trinkets:
- Spymaster’s Web is widely regarded as the best-in-slot trinket due to its versatility and consistent utility.
- Other strong options include Mercurial Egg, Gill of Shadows, and Empowering Crystal, all of which provide powerful secondary stat boosts.
Consumables:
- Use Cursed Critical Strike potions to enhance your crit-heavy build further.
- For flask options, the Flask of Alchemical Chaos often outperforms others, thanks to its random bonus effects that frequently include crit enhancements.
Rotation for Devastation Evoker
General Rotation Tips:
- Always use Deep Breath before activating Dragonrage to maximize its impact.
- When casting Mass Disintegrate, let the channel complete unless you’re chaining into another Mass Disintegrate. Interrupting the channel with a non-mass spell results in a significant DPS loss.
- If you’re moving into an AoE-heavy encounter, prepare by stacking Charged Blast with Azure Strike before engaging.
Opener Sequence:
- Start with Living Flame to prep.
- Use Deep Breath and cancel it immediately after it hits for a quick follow-up.
- Activate Dragonrage, then immediately cast Fire Breath, followed by Shattering Star and Eternity Surge.
- Transition into Mass Disintegrate, chaining into a second Mass Disintegrate whenever possible.
AoE Rotation:
- Build up Charged Blast stacks using Azure Strike.
- Follow up with Deep Breath, canceling it early if necessary.
- Use Mass Disintegrate and Pyre alternately to maintain high AoE damage.
Comparing Devastation and Augmentation Evokers
While Augmentation Evokers are currently favored in group content for their synergy with top-tier classes like Fury Warriors or Arcane Mages, Devastation Evokers hold their own as a solid damage-dealing choice.
- Augmentation excels at boosting overall group performance through utility and buffs.
- Devastation is better suited for solo play or situations where pure damage output is key, especially during leveling.
If you prefer straightforward gameplay and big burst damage moments, you’ll find plenty to enjoy with Devastation. It’s versatile enough to compete in cleave-heavy fights and offers a satisfying playstyle for players who value mobility and high-impact abilities.
Augmentation Evoker
Stat Priority & Set Bonus
Augmentation Evoker is WoW’s first dedicated support specialization, blending the powers of the black and bronze dragonflights. This unique class weaves magic to strengthen allies while still delivering solid damage to enemies.
Let’s break it all down in a way that’s beginner-friendly while still offering useful insights for veteran players.
Stat Priority
The most important stat for your Augmentation Evoker is Intellect, which boosts the damage and healing of your spells.
When choosing gear, always prioritize higher item level (ilvl), as 99% of the time, a higher ilvl upgrade will provide more value than focusing solely on secondary stats.
For secondary stats, here’s the priority:
- Mastery – Timewalker: Mastery enhances your support capabilities by granting the Shifting Sands buff to a damage-dealing ally, increasing their Versatility, which boosts their damage and healing while reducing damage taken. The more Mastery you have, the higher the versatility bonus and the longer buffs like Shifting Sands, Breath of Eons, and other helpful auras last.
- Critical Strike: Increases your chance to deal double damage and healing.
- Haste: Reduces cast times, global cooldowns, and the tick rate for damage-over-time (DoT) effects. For example, a Living Flame cast at 1.9 seconds will be faster with more Haste.
Set Bonus (Season 1)
The Season 1 set bonus enhances two core abilities:
- Upheaval: This ability deals increased damage and boosts the power of your next two Eruption casts.
- Breath of Eons: Gains additional primary stat scaling every two seconds it remains active, further amplifying its utility and impact.
Utilities & Defensives
Augmentation Evokers have a robust toolkit, split between debuffing enemies and supporting allies. Let’s look at each in detail:
Debuffing Enemies
- Sleepwalk: Disorients a single enemy for 20 seconds, causing them to wander aimlessly. Be cautious, as damage may wake them early.
- Landslide: Conjures a path of shifting stone toward a target location, rooting enemies for 15 seconds. As with Sleepwalk, damage may break the root.
- Oppressing Roar: Emits a cone that increases the duration of all crowd control effects on affected enemies by 50%. For example, if a root lasts 10 seconds, using Oppressing Roar extends it to 15 seconds. This applies to all crowd control abilities cast within the next 10 seconds.
- Quell: Your interrupt, or “kick.” This ability stops enemy spellcasting, which is crucial in PvE (raids and Mythic+) and PvP content. Beginners and veterans alike often underestimate how impactful timely interrupts can be.
Supporting Allies
- Obsidian Scales: A core defensive ability with two charges. Reduces damage taken by 30% for 12 seconds.
- Blessing of the Bronze: This pre-combat ability reduces the cooldown of major movement abilities for you and your entire group by 15% for an hour. Simply press it, and it will apply to your party or raid automatically.
- Fury of the Aspects: A group-wide Bloodlust/Heroism effect that increases Haste by 30% for 40 seconds. Note that this effect is shared across the raid, meaning if another class uses their version, you’ll be placed on cooldown as well.
- Rescue: Allows you to swoop to an ally and transport them to a target location, saving them from danger or repositioning them during intense fights.
- Cauterizing Flame: One of the best debuff removers in the game. It cleanses Bleed, Poison, Curse, and Disease effects while healing the target. Unlike most classes that only remove specific types of debuffs, Evokers can cleanse Bleeds, making this an exceptional utility.
While there are other talents and abilities available in your Augmentation tree, such as Expunge, these are the core tools you’ll rely on in most situations.
Consumables & Enchants
Enchants
- Winged Grace (Back): Reduces fall damage and provides avoidance.
- Crystalline Radiance (Wrist): Adds primary stat and avoidance.
- Sunset Spellthread (Legs): Boosts primary stat and stamina.
- Scout’s March (Boots): Increases movement speed.
- Rings: Apply Mastery, Haste, or Critical Strike depending on your specific stat priority. Use simulation tools to find the ideal setup.
- Radiant Power (Weapon): This enchant grants bonus radiant damage to your target and increases your secondary stats temporarily.
Consumables
- Tempered Versatility Flask: A general-purpose option for boosting damage and defenses.
- Feasts: Provide the best group-wide stat bonuses.
- Tempered Potions: Increase a secondary stat not covered by your flask.
- Healing Potions: Always keep some for emergencies.
- Algari Mana Oil: Adds Critical Strike and Haste to your weapon.
- Crystallized Augment Rune: Increases your primary stat temporarily.
- Culminating Blasphemy Gems: These provide primary stat increases and a critical effect bonus. To maximize the bonus, use four different gem colors—one of each type (Onyx, Ruby, Emerald, and Sapphire). Afterward, use additional gems to suit your secondary stat priorities.
Preservation Evoker
Stat Priority
When gearing your Preservation Evoker, item level is your top priority. As a healer, more stats generally translate to better performance. Only focus on specific stats when comparing two pieces of equal item level.
Recommended Stat Weights:
- Haste: Aim for about 15%. While haste doesn’t synergize particularly well with our abilities, it’s essential for quicker reaction times and spell casts. Adjust this based on your preference and gameplay.
- Crit: Your best stat after reaching your desired haste level. It improves healing output and extends the duration of your heal-over-time abilities.
- Versatility: A solid secondary stat that enhances both your healing and damage while adding some survivability.
- Mastery: Although powerful for healing, its lack of flexibility makes it the least prioritized stat, especially in dungeons.
Trinket Recommendations
As a Preservation Evoker, you should focus on stat-boosting trinkets for maximum versatility. Here are some solid options:
- Unbound Changeling (Mist of Tirna Scithe): Its stat buff can be adjusted by eating food of the corresponding type, making it a flexible choice.
- Empowering Crystal (Dawnbreaker): Another easily farmable trinket that offers consistent stats.
Honorable Mentions:
- Spy Master’s Web and Gale of Shadows: These trinkets can be powerful if you’re willing to use DPS spells aggressively, but they’re not beginner-friendly. Once you’re comfortable, experiment to find what works best for your playstyle.
Talents
Class Tree Highlights:
Your goal is to reach key nodes such as Leaping Flames, Lush Growth, and Zephyr. These talents are invaluable for dungeon healing. For flexibility:
- Prioritize utility talents like extended hover duration or stuns based on your group’s needs.
- If unsure what to drop, start with the middle-left magic damage talents, as they are less impactful for healing.
Spec Tree Highlights:
The Spec Tree is more restrictive due to crucial nodes like Timeless Magic. To path effectively:
- Time of Need: Best for healing output and default choice.
- Energy Loop: Use if you’re struggling with mana.
- Rewind Cooldown Reduction: Situationally useful for boss fights but not a general recommendation.
In the upper tree, Rush of Vitality and Dreamwalker are interchangeable. Dreamwalker is often preferred for dungeons, as it ensures mobility while casting Emerald Communion.
Damage Options:
If you want to experiment with DPS talents, allocate points to Flow State in the middle-right tree. However, this comes at the cost of healing talents like Call of Ysera or Temporal Anomaly.
Healing Rotation
Healing as a Preservation Evoker requires adapting your abilities to the situation rather than following a fixed rotation. Here’s a breakdown of key spells:
Key Abilities:
- Reversion: Use to maintain passives like Grace Period and Scarlet Adaptation. Pair with Echo to counter burst damage or to quickly heal the tank and DPS who take heavy hits.
- Dream Breath: Apply rank 1 casts on as many allies as possible for efficient healing. Fully channel it in emergencies for a large upfront heal.
- Spirit Bloom: Your big group heal. Fully charge for maximum targets, or cast rank 1 for spot healing.
- Living Flame: Use sparingly as a single-target heal; it’s inefficient and should only be a last resort.
- Echo: Precast before high-priority heals like Spirit Bloom or Reversion to double their effects.
AoE Heal Combo:
- Apply Echo to 2–3 players.
- Use Verdant Embrace on a non-echoed player to activate Call of Ysera and Lifebind.
- Channel a fully empowered Spirit Bloom to heal the group.
- Follow up with a rank 1 Dream Breath to top off allies.
Cooldowns
Stasis:
Your primary healing cooldown records your next three defensive spell casts and replays them. Some key uses:
- Full Party Heal: Stasis + Verdant Embrace, Spirit Bloom, and Dream Breath for massive group healing.
- Emergency Tank Heal: Stasis + repeated single-target spells (e.g., Echo, Reversion, Spirit Bloom) to sustain heavy damage on a tank.
- Debuff Removal: Use Cauterizing Flame and Naturalize with Stasis to dispel multiple debuffs simultaneously.
Other Cooldowns:
- Emerald Communion: Combines well with Lifebind for heavy group healing. Use while stunned or disoriented for maximum value.
- Tip the Scales: Fully empowers a spell instantly. Use it to save time during high-movement scenarios or to keep your group damage/haste buff active with Chrono Warden talents.
- Rewind: Reverses recent damage. Use preemptively during high-damage phases rather than waiting until players are too low.
DPS Rotation
Preservation Evoker has a simple DPS rotation:
- AoE: Fully charge Fire Breath and let it hit multiple targets.
- Single Target: Use minimum-charge Fire Breath and spam Living Flame.
- Use Deep Breath every 2 minutes for burst AoE damage.
Utility
- Hover: Essential for mobility, casting minor spells while moving, or avoiding mechanics. With talents, it also provides a damage reduction (DR).
- Oppressive Roar: Extends stun durations on affected mobs, great for team synergy.
- Dracthyr Racials: Effective against trash mobs but won’t work on bosses.
With these tips, you'll master Preservation Evoker healing and provide excellent support in any dungeon or raid scenario. Remember, practice makes perfect!
