How To Get To WoW The War Within Endgame
Aside from finishing the campaign, reaching the endgame means reaching the max level of 80 first. Before you dive into leveling, there are some things you should know to make the journey faster and smoother:
Heirlooms
Heirlooms no longer provide an XP boost, but if upgraded to scale up to level 70, they save you the hassle of constantly swapping gear.
This can save time and effort, making them a worthwhile investment. You can purchase and upgrade heirlooms in Orgrimmar for Horde and Ironforge for Alliance. Links to the vendors' locations are included in the video description.
Draft of Ten Lands Potion
The Draft of Ten Lands potion grants a 10% XP boost up to level 49. You can buy it for five medals in Boralus (Alliance) or Dazar'alor (Horde) by completing Battle for Azeroth (BFA) content.
If you don’t have this potion, it’s not a deal-breaker—we’ve leveled plenty of characters without it simply because I forget to buy it. If you have the medals, go for it!
Account-wide XP Buff
A new achievement awards an account-wide XP buff for each character you level to 80. For every max-level character, you’ll get a 5% XP increase, capping at 25%. While some players might benefit more if they’ve already leveled multiple characters, it’s a nice incentive.
Events for Extra XP
- Darkmoon Faire: Active the first Sunday of every month, this grants a 10% XP buff.
- Timewalking Events: Available every three weeks, these dungeons provide massive XP boosts—often a full level for completing one. Check level requirements before joining.
- 20th Anniversary Event: Set for October or November, this offers a 20% XP boost—an excellent opportunity to level quickly.
Keep an eye on these events to maximize your XP gain. Now that we’re prepared, let’s get started!
Leveling Guide: From Level 1 to 80
Level 1-10: The Starting Experience
If you’re not leveling an Allied Race (which starts at level 10), you’ll begin at level 1. You have two options:
- Your race’s starting zone.
- Exile’s Reach—an updated beginner zone.
We recommend Exile’s Reach. It’s fast, efficient, and can be completed in under an hour—30 minutes if you’re focused. This zone features simple quests, treasures, and a compact layout, making it the ideal starting experience. By the time you finish, you’ll be around level 10 or 11.
Level 10-20: Dungeon Spam or Legion Questing
For this range, two effective methods stand out:
1. Dungeon Spam with Chromie Time
- Choose the Cataclysm timeline via Chromie Time to access classic dungeons.
- These dungeons are quick, offer good XP, and have quests for additional rewards.
- However, queue times can vary, and dungeon groups may sometimes slow you down.
2. Questing in Legion Zones
- Choose the Legion timeline and quest in Azsuna.
- Bonus objectives in the area provide great XP, and thanks to dragonriding, traveling between quests is fast.
- If a Legion Invasion is active, complete all the world quests in the area for substantial XP gains.
Using either method, you’ll reach level 20 efficiently.
Level 20-50: Questing in Old Zones
Here’s where War Mode becomes useful. Enabling it grants a 10% XP buff, perfect for speeding up leveling.
The Plan
- Use Chromie Time to select the Cataclysm timeline and quest in old classic zones.
- For Alliance, focus on Duskwood, Redridge Mountains, and Loch Modan.
- For Horde, quest through Silverpine Forest, Hillsbrad Foothills, and either Arathi Highlands or The Hinterlands.
These zones have tightly packed quests that can be completed quickly, especially with dragonriding. Depending on your buffs, you should reach level 50-54 in about 2.5 hours.
Level 50-70: Warlords of Draenor Zones
Switch to the Warlords of Draenor timeline and take advantage of the XP-rich environment.
Steps:
- Complete the introductory quests for Draenor to unlock your Garrison.
- Focus on bonus objectives and treasures while questing—they offer incredible XP.
- Main and side quests in Gorgrond are particularly efficient.
This section can be completed in about an hour, thanks to fast travel with dragonriding and high XP yields.
Level 70-80: The Final Stretch
Leveling from 70 to 80 is faster than Dragonflight’s earlier grind from 60 to 70. However, Blizzard’s hotfixes made the process more challenging without proper gear.
Preparations
- Purchase 400+ item level gear at level 70 to avoid issues in dungeons. Without decent gear, you’ll struggle to contribute and might get kicked from groups.
Strategy
- Focus on main quests with War Mode enabled.
- While questing, keep an eye out for bonus objectives and world quests for extra XP.
- To see world quests, ensure you’ve completed the main campaign and reached max level on at least one character.
For those with friends, dungeon spamming as a premade group is the fastest option. Alternatively, Timewalking dungeons offer great XP if you can queue during their event.
World Quests and Weekly Objectives
Your first priority, whether you’ve reached level 80 or not, is to buckle down and grind through The War Within campaign story. Once you’ve completed the storyline, you’ll unlock the World Quest and Weekly Events systems, which are essential for diving into the endgame.
The World Quest system is one of the simplest and most efficient ways to rack up rewards. The moment you unlock it, we highly recommend downloading the World Quest Tracker add-on.
This will allow you to view all available world quests on your map with ease, making targeted farming a breeze.
These quests offer a wide variety of rewards, including effective item-level gear to jumpstart your journey as a fresh level 80, gold, reputation boosts for your Renown, Resonance Crystals, Key Shards, and more.
When you hit level 80, your immediate focus should be tackling the weekly world quest reward. This can be obtained from the Seasoned Adventurer’s Cache by completing a selection of world quests.
Look for a quest marked with a lock symbol that rewards an epic chest. This weekly cache is a guaranteed source of high item-level gear, with the potential to upgrade it to item level 593—a massive power boost early on.
For instance, during the launch week, one lucky Enhancement Shaman received a weapon, upgraded it fully to 593, and saw their character power skyrocket.
In addition to the world quests, keep an eye on the zone-specific weekly quests. These provide rare weekly caches with fantastic rewards.
While these weren’t available during Early Access, they should now be active with the expansion’s launch. Make this a top priority, especially before the weekly reset.
Lastly, there’s a weekly quest available in the capital city, Dagal. You can pick it up from Beeroth, who will send you to complete a specific dungeon. The reward? A hefty reputation boost for the Renown faction of your choice—a crucial step in powering up your character.
Heroic Dungeons
With the launch of The War Within, you’ll gain access to Heroic Dungeons. Completing these dungeons during your daily World Tour grants you 567 item-level gear, which can be upgraded to an impressive 580.
This gear is some of the best available during the first week, so running Heroic Dungeons is vital.
The "World Tour" involves completing all available Heroic Dungeons across every zone. Make it a daily goal to finish this circuit to collect Valor Stones and secure that sweet 567 heroic gear to enhance your power.
Renown Progression
The expansion introduces four distinct Renown factions, each offering unique and powerful rewards.
While some rewards are cosmetic, others are critical for boosting your character’s power, such as epic helmets, shoulder pieces, chest armor, and even customizable trinkets tailored to your stat priorities. These items are game-changers for a fresh level 80.
To build your Renown, there are several strategies:
- Side Quests: Completing side quests in each zone provides significant Renown gains. Finishing questlines often grants additional rewards, like rare 571 item-level gear, making it a win-win for both Renown progression and gear upgrades.
- Rare Mobs: Target rare mobs daily in the zones aligned with your chosen Renown faction. Killing these rares grants a 150-point reputation boost and often drops gear, mounts, or cosmetics. This is an excellent option if you prefer combat over questing.
- Add-ons for Efficiency: Use the HandyNotes add-on alongside the newly released War Within HandyNotes. These tools make locating rares and treasures effortless—just open your map, pick a zone, and start farming. Rare hunting is not only productive but can also become an addictive pastime.
Rare Target Farming and Treasures
Rare hunting is an incredible way to enhance your character at level 80. It offers Renown, exclusive mounts, powerful gear, and unique cosmetics.
To maximize your efficiency, use the HandyNotes and War Within HandyNotes add-ons, which help pinpoint rare spawns and treasures on your map.
If you’re not a fan of traditional questing, rare farming is an excellent alternative to earn rewards and build Renown. Plus, we’ve linked a resource in the description that outlines all the treasures and rare mobs across every zone.
Use it to discover which items are worth targeting and to streamline your farming sessions.
Spend some time exploring these opportunities, and you’ll find your character’s power growing rapidly. Whether you prefer questing, rare hunting, or dungeon diving, there’s plenty to do in The War Within endgame.
Gathering and Treasures: Overlooked Yet Essential
One of the most overlooked yet incredibly beneficial activities in The War Within is gathering and looting while doing your dailies. It might sound mundane, but hear us out.
While you’re ticking off your daily or weekly tasks and flying around the world, you’ll spot small treasures on your map as well as herbs and mining nodes. Don’t ignore these!
The purple treasures scattered across the map can hold a treasure trove of rewards:
- Resonance Crystals for Renown items
- Rare crafting materials to earn gold
- Exclusive cosmetics
- Valor Stones for gear upgrades
For solo players, this is an excellent way to multitask. Here's how you can make the most of it:
- While farming rares in your chosen zone for Renown and reputation, gather herbs, mine, and loot treasures along your path.
- This triple-whammy approach lets you rack up gold, earn powerful currencies, and progress your character in multiple ways.
- Even spending a couple of hours a day on this can yield significant results.
It’s a low-pressure activity, ideal for those not keen on diving into harder group content.
Delves
Delves are a standout feature in The War Within expansion, designed to offer bite-sized dungeon content. Whether solo or with up to four players, delves provide fantastic gear and other rewards.
While their full potential isn’t unlocked yet (we’re waiting on access to additional delve levels), they’re already worth exploring, especially when they’re Bountiful.
When a Bountiful delve appears on your map, you can use a Restored Coffer Key to unlock an epic chest at the end. This chest holds valuable loot, including high-level gear. Here’s what you need to know about obtaining and using these keys:
- Collect Key Shards: Gather 100 shards from World Quests, radiant echoes, and outdoor events to craft a key.
- Renown Rewards: Reach certain thresholds to earn keys.
- Bountiful Delve Quests: Available in the capital city.
Important Tip: Save your keys! Don’t waste them on low-level delves. Wait until higher-level delve tiers are unlocked to maximize your rewards. Using keys early can net you subpar loot—a mistake we’ve learned the hard way!
World Soul Memories
One of the newest and most exciting features in The War Within is the World Soul Memories event. Here’s how it works:
- Use a Radiant Echo to activate the event in the open world.
- Complete timed objectives, kill mobs, and rack up a score.
- Rewards scale with your performance.
For example, scoring high could reward you with 50 Valor Stones and Coffer Key shards. It’s fast-paced and challenging, with replayability baked in—you’ll want to keep improving your score!
What makes this even better is the ability to “gamble” by saving your radiant echoes to create larger challenges. Bigger risks mean bigger rewards, making it a personal mini-mythic system that’s both rewarding and fun.
Professions
Professions are a cornerstone of endgame progression in The War Within. Over the past few expansions, Blizzard has turned professions into robust gameplay mechanics by introducing talent trees. These let you specialize and tailor your craft to your preferences.
For instance:
- Enchanting: Focus on disenchanting to maximize material yields.
- Blacksmithing: Specialize in forging specific weapons, such as axes.
- Inscription: Master the art of crafting Darkmoon Cards for steady profit.
- Alchemy: Hone your skills to produce high-demand flasks for raiders and PvPers.
Not only can professions be a lucrative gold-making endeavor, but they also add depth to your character’s customization, making them an excellent way to dive into endgame content on your terms.
PvP
Player versus Player content is another integral part of The War Within. While ranked PvP like Solo Shuffle, Arenas, and Rated Battlegrounds doesn’t kick off until preset schedules, you’ll want to use the preseason to your advantage.
Here’s the plan:
- Farm Honor: Get a full set of rare PvP gear before the season starts.
- Dominate Scaling: PvP gear scales up dramatically in combat, propelling your item level into the 600s when engaging other players.
Whether you’re planning to crush Arenas, climb RBG ranks, or just dive into some Solo Queue madness, grinding that initial gear set is critical to hitting the ground running.
Guilds
One of the most overlooked aspects of enjoying The War Within is finding a guild. It’s a common mistake many players make, but playing an MMORPG solo can diminish the entire experience.
Why a Guild Matters:
- Access to group content like raids, Mythic+ dungeons, and guild-exclusive events.
- A community of like-minded players to share tips, strategies, and camaraderie.
- Support for gearing, progression, and even professions through shared resources.
Remember: Whether you’re chasing gold, glory, or community, these three aspects—Professions, PvP, and Guilds—can define your endgame experience. What will your path be?
Other Things To Do
The endgame offers a vast array of activities to do, many of which are more expansive than ever before. If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed about where to start or what to prioritize, we’ve got you covered. Here’s your comprehensive guide to everything you can do at max level.
1. Finish the Story Campaign
Before diving into any other endgame content, ensure you’ve completed the main story campaign. If you reached level 80 without finishing it, make this your first priority. Completing the campaign unlocks crucial features like:
- World Quests
- Allied Race quests
- Adventure Mode for your alts
- The continuation of the endgame story
You’ll know you’ve finished when you see a splash screen confirming new content is unlocked. Begin the max-level story by talking to Moira in Dagal and accepting The Fleet Arrives quest.
Note that this requires Renown Level 4 with all four Caz Algar factions, so prepare for some reputation farming if needed.
2. Gear Up!
Maximizing your item level is crucial for tackling tougher content. With Season 1 kicking off on September 10, bringing the new raid and Mythic dungeons, now’s the time to prepare.
- Normal Dungeons: Drop item level 554 gear, an easy starting point.
- Heroic Dungeons: Reward gear at item level 571 now or 580 when the season starts.
- Valor Stones and Crests: Earn and use Valor Stones and various crests (Weathered, Carved, Runed, and Gilded) to upgrade your gear. Higher-tier content grants better crests.
To upgrade gear, visit an upgrade vendor to see how far your items can progress and what resources are required.
3. Weekly Caches
Weekly caches are one of the simplest ways to score valuable gear upgrades. Here’s how to maximize them:
- Open your first two caches each week for item level 574 gear (or Veteran-level gear after Season 1 begins).
- Completing four caches in a week rewards a Restored Coffer Key for better delve rewards.
How to Get Caches:
- Complete the Call of the World Soul weekly quest, available in Dagal.
- Participate in zone events like:
- Theater Troupe in Dagal
- Awakening the Machine in the Ringing Deeps
- Spreading the Light in Hall of Fall
- Special assignment World Quests, available twice weekly, also provide caches.
4. Radiant Echoes and World Soul Events
Radiant Echoes, obtained from delve chests, unlock World Soul events in Caz Algar zones. These events offer quick, action-packed rewards:
- Locate event sites via your map when carrying a Radiant Echo.
- Complete the timed events by defeating enemies, earning key shards, and Valor Stones.
5. Dungeons: Your Gateway to Gear
Dungeons are a straightforward way to gear up for higher-tier activities.
- Normal Dungeons: Item level 554, ideal for beginners.
- Heroic Dungeons: Item level 571 (580 post-Season 1).
