S-tier
Frost Death Knight (Frost DK)
Let’s dive right into Frost Death Knight. As you might expect, Frost DK is still holding steady as one of the top-tier specs, sitting comfortably in the S tier. It's easily one of the strongest melee specs in the game right now.
There’s really not much to add here if you’ve been keeping up with the meta or even glancing at past tier lists—Frost DK remains a powerhouse.
The spec hasn’t undergone any massive changes worth noting, but it still shines in terms of tankiness and solid damage profiles. If you’re running with Breath of Sindragosa, the playstyle can be extremely rewarding, provided you’re in the right setup.
That’s the catch, though—you’ll only really get the full value out of Frost DK when you’re working with a pre-made group or a tank who knows how to cater to your cooldowns. Communication with your team is key, as this spec heavily relies on external factors to perform at its peak.
Despite this dependency, Frost DK earns its spot in S tier simply because it’s just a joy to play. The gameplay feels good, the numbers are strong, and it’s hard to deny how satisfying it is to dominate Mythic+ as a Frost DK.
Frost Mage
Frost Mage is living its best life this season, currently dominating as an S-tier spec. It’s consistently cranking out 18s and 19s, which is just insane. Last we checked, the top key for the week included a Frost Mage, and honestly, that says a lot about how strong it is.
It’s the AoE powerhouse among the Mage specs and doesn’t lose too much single-target damage to achieve it. Plus, it’s arguably the tankiest Mage spec with access to Cold Snap for resetting defensives, among other goodies.
The utility? Chef’s kiss. Slowing mobs by 70% is a godsend in higher keys when the tank needs to kite, even if kiting isn't the ideal strategy. Frost Mage just delivers on all fronts, making it a no-brainer for pushing high Mythic+ content.
Retribution Paladin
Retribution Paladin is a fan favorite, but while it’s performing well, it’s not quite S-tier. It’s capable of hitting 18s, which is impressive, but it’s not quite keeping pace with the big hitters like Balance Druid or Frost Mage.
Ret brings solid damage, is tanky, and has great utility—immunities, poison dispels, and the like. But here’s the catch: a lot of the value you’d want from a Paladin is already covered by Prot Paladin, which is a top-tier tank choice this season.
That overlap makes Ret less appealing at higher keys, where group composition gets tighter. Still, Ret’s flexibility and ability to perform consistently even when things go sideways make it a solid and safe pick. It's just not breaking through the ceiling to compete with the very best right now.
Assassination Rogue
Assassination Rogue has been debated over whether it should sit in S-tier or A-tier, and the line is razor-thin. It’s performing well, solidly clearing 18s with potential attempts at 19s, but it doesn’t push as high as the top-tier specs like Frost Mage or Elemental Shaman.
Despite this, its popularity and efficiency keep it clinging to S-tier status—barely. Think of it as bottom S-tier, if that helps.
Its strength lies in its fantastic damage profile, similar to the old-school Fire Mage. It excels in single-target damage with effective cleave thanks to its bleeds.
Assassination turns what would be inefficient damage scenarios—like mobs with varying health pools—into its playground. That’s where it shines, offering both precision and adaptability.
Enhancement Shaman
Enhancement Shaman edges out Elemental by a small margin, claiming the title of the top Shaman spec and one of the strongest melee specs overall. The rank-one Shaman in Mythic+ right now is an Enhancement player, which speaks volumes.
While both specs are shining this season, Enhancement’s versatility and consistent damage put it slightly ahead. Whether you go Elemental or Enhancement, though, Shamans are winning in Dragonflight.
Elemental Shaman
Elemental Shaman is on fire this season, comfortably sitting in S-tier. It’s consistently clearing 18s and 19s, delivering strong performances across the board. The utility is phenomenal, with poison cleansing totems, curse dispels, and, of course, Bloodlust.
But let’s not forget the main attraction: its damage profile. Elemental Shamans are cranking out massive numbers, and their sustained output fits perfectly into the current dungeon meta. It's a dream pick for pushing keys.
A-Tier
Unholy Death Knight (Unholy DK)
Next up is Unholy DK, which has seen a noticeable rise in popularity over the past few weeks. This uptick might be thanks to the Mythic Dungeon International (MDI) spotlight, but truthfully, Unholy has always been a solid choice.
Some players, for example, have been running Unholy DK and consistently topping the meters for months now. If you’ve overlooked this spec before, it’s likely because it wasn’t getting much love in the high-level competitive scene until recently.
Unholy DK sits in the A tier, just behind Frost. It’s incredibly strong and, in some situations, performs just as well as Frost DK. However, it doesn’t rely on Breath of Sindragosa, which makes it a bit more flexible in terms of damage profile.
Unholy scales exceptionally well in larger pulls, and if you’ve seen those massive pulls in Necrotic Wake, you know what we’re talking about. The numbers can be insane—though don’t expect to hit 15 million DPS unless you’re in a perfectly optimized setup.
Balance Druid
Balance Druid has been climbing the ranks lately, and it’s easy to see why. More Balance Druids are pushing +18 and +19 keys now than Unholy DKs, which is impressive.
This spec has always had a lot of tools in its arsenal, from Mark of the Wild to curse and poison dispels. These utilities alone make it a valuable addition to many groups.
Its damage is nothing to scoff at either. Balance Druids have consistently been capable of cranking out massive numbers, and it’s a solid choice for anyone looking to play a ranged DPS spec.
There’s definitely a spot for Balance Druids in the meta, and it’s sitting comfortably in the A tier.
Survival Hunter
Survival is the comeback story of the season, skyrocketing to A tier. People finally realized this spec absolutely cranks. It's not just a gimmick—it has serious damage potential, solid utility, and plenty of tools to contribute to Mythic Plus groups.
While Survival brings the usual Hunter perks, its pure damage and versatility are the real draws. Some utility overlaps with other classes, but if you want raw output with some added flair, Survival's your pick. It’s close to S tier, but not quite there yet.
Fire Mage
Fire Mage has had some well-deserved buffs, pulling it up to A tier. The spec feels much better to play but comes with a steeper learning curve than you might expect—way harder than Arcane. Fire excels at spreading damage with Ignite, making it efficient for AoE-heavy fights.
However, focusing on AoE sacrifices boss damage, so you’ll need to balance your build depending on the key.
The Sun King's Blessing build is still the go-to for high keys, but there's flexibility between Frostfire and Sunfury. It’s competitive and fun, but not quite S tier—at least not without a little more tuning.
B-Tier
Arcane Mage
Arcane is sitting squarely in B tier, and it’s not surprising. It’s never been a Mythic Plus darling, but it can hold its own. The spec excels in priority damage and single-target burst, making it solid for bosses.
However, Arcane doesn’t scale well with large AoE pulls, which limits its potential. One standout player is carrying the spec into top 20 keys, but the overall performance remains average.
If you’re a fan of Arcane, stick to its strengths: boss damage, reliable interrupts, and utility like Remove Curse and Invisibility.
Outlaw Rogue
Outlaw Rogue struggles to step out of Assassination's shadow. While it does bring respectable damage, possibly rivaling Ret Paladin or Survival Hunter, it doesn’t provide anything particularly unique.
Sure, Shiv for soothing is nice, but it's not exclusive, and that lack of standout utility hurts its desirability. While some rankings might place it higher, in practice, it lags behind due to its limited impact in high keys. Outlaw feels stuck in B-tier for now.
C-Tier
Havoc Demon Hunter (Havoc DH)
Now, let’s talk about Havoc Demon Hunter. Unfortunately, this spec has dropped in performance, landing in the C tier. We need to clarify what that means in context.
For us, C tier specs are still capable of handling +15 keys, but they’re just not performing at the same level as the higher-tier specs in the current meta.
Havoc doesn’t bring anything particularly unique to the table right now. While it’s decent in damage and utility, other specs simply outshine it.
The 3% magic damage debuff it provides is nice, but if you’re already running a team with Frost DKs, Mages, or Balance Druids, you’re likely covered in that department. Havoc just doesn’t offer enough to warrant a spot over those specs.
In casual content, you might feel great smashing the meters in a +4 key. But when you step into higher content, like +16 keys, you’ll notice Havoc struggling to keep up with the competition. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either—it’s just okay.
Feral Druid
Feral Druid is a bit of a wild card. Technically, it’s in the C tier right now, but there’s potential for it to climb higher. The top-performing Feral players are doing amazing things, pushing keys above what most other Feral players are attempting.
If we were to rank Feral based solely on the performance of those top players, it might even hit the B tier. However, the spec isn’t as widely represented at higher levels, which keeps it from rising in the overall rankings.
Affliction Warlock
Affliction's settling comfortably in C tier, slightly ahead of Havoc Demon Hunter. Here's the deal: while there's a top-tier player cranking out incredible runs on Affliction, you can’t rank a spec solely based on one standout player.
Why? Because a coordinated party can push any spec higher than it would normally perform. For example, slap a Devastation Evoker into a group of world-class players, and boom—it’s punching way above its weight.
Affliction has had a small resurgence, consistently hitting 16 keys, but that's its ceiling for now. It’s progress, but we’re not exactly popping champagne yet.
Windwalker Monk
This spec needs some love. It’s been hanging out at the lower end of the tier lists for what feels like forever, even throughout Dragonflight. It’s sitting at C-tier, which is rough, clearing 16s but not turning any heads.
The utility Windwalker brings isn’t unique enough to make it stand out. Sure, you can pull off some niche skips, like using Ring of Peace and Paralysis in dungeons like Mists of Tirna Scithe, but let’s be honest—other classes can do the same or better.
Windwalker’s biggest issue is that it doesn’t have anything that screams "take me to your high keys." It’s all passive damage buffs with no real wow factor. It’s a shame because the spec has potential, but until it gets some serious buffs or unique utility, it’s going to stay overlooked.
Shadow Priest
Shadow Priest has been struggling to find its place this season. Damage-wise, it’s fine, but that’s not enough to make it desirable for high keys. The problem is that everything Shadow Priest can do, Discipline Priest can do better, while also offering top-tier healing.
Mass Dispel and Mind Soothe are great, sure, but they’re not enough to justify bringing Shadow when Discipline exists.
Shadow doesn’t bring anything game-changing that pushes a party’s performance in high keys. If it had top-tier damage, maybe it could climb up to B-tier, but without buffs to either its damage output or utility, it’s stuck in the shadows for now.
Subtlety Rogue
Subtlety Rogue has seen slight improvement compared to its past reputation as the bottom of the barrel. It’s performing better, reaching 16s consistently, but that’s not enough to elevate it out of C-tier.
The spec needs more than a rework—it needs a serious buff to its damage or utility to stand out in the current meta. For now, it remains a nostalgia pick for those who remember its glory days, not a competitive choice for Mythic+.
Demonology Warlock
Demonology Warlock is unfortunately at the bottom of the Warlock roster, sitting in C-tier. It’s a small step up from being the absolute worst but still nowhere near competing with specs in B-tier or higher.
Demonology’s damage is okay—enough to clear 15s and 16s—but it doesn’t have the utility or raw power needed to push higher keys. Warlocks as a whole are struggling this season in Mythic+ since their utility kit doesn’t align well with the demands of the dungeons.
Unless Demonology’s damage gets a significant buff, it’s going to stay stuck in mediocrity.
D-Tier
Devastation Evoker
Finally, we come to Devastation Evoker, which has unfortunately found itself at the bottom of the tier list. This spec is struggling to keep up in high-level content, and it’s not entirely clear why. The damage potential is there, but it just doesn’t seem to shine in Mythic+ environments.
Part of the issue might be that Augmentation Evoker overshadows it in almost every way. Augmentation offers similar tools but provides significantly more group utility and damage amplification.
That leaves Devastation feeling like an “I just like it” choice, rather than a competitive one. For now, it’s firmly in the D tier, reserved for specs that aren’t seeing much success in the current meta.
Beast Mastery Hunter
Beast Mastery is still struggling in D tier, just edging out Devastation Evoker. It’s not great, but it’s not the bottom of the barrel either. BM has a few more 15 keys cleared compared to Devastation, so it’s not a complete loss.
It benefits from Hunter’s utility toolkit—interrupts, traps, and general flexibility—but the spec itself isn’t shining. Unless Blizzard drops some turbo buffs, don’t expect much movement here. BM’s best days this season are behind it.
Marksmanship Hunter
Let’s pour one out for Marksmanship—it’s officially the worst-performing spec in Mythic Plus right now. It’s hitting 14s and 15s, but that’s it. Dark Ranger buffs in 10.1.5 helped Beast Mastery more than MM, and MM’s reliance on Sentinel hasn’t done much for its potential.
It’s another spec in desperate need of love from the devs. Buffs are coming, sure, but MM is still waiting at the back of the line.
