The Inquisitor Ascendancy Class in Path of Exile
The Inquisitor ascendancy class in Path of Exile is relatively popular, though it has been trumped by heavy hitters, such as the Trickster, Slayer, and its close brethren, the Hierophant. Be that as it may, there are PoE Inquisitor builds that are worth looking at—one of which is the focus of this build guide.
In this article, we are going to talk about the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor. It is a build that harnesses the power of the elements to rip through enemies without much effort. If you are going to partake in the Necro Settlers League, then you need to check this out for sure!
Why Choose the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor?
The base version of Tornado in PoE 3.25 is often utilized as a means of reflecting the damage it receives to nearby enemies while it is on the field. The Lightning Arrow Deadeye and the Kinetic Blast of Clustering Hierophant are just some of the builds that use this spell skill gem in this way.
But, if you like to utilize it to decimate map monsters and bosses, then you need to use its transfigured version: The Tornado of Elemental Turbulence. So, how does this differ from the original?
The main attraction of the PoE Tornado of Elemental Turbulence skill is that it converts 100% of physical damage to a random element. Whenever you cast this, you summon a tornado that may cause enemies to suffer from fire, cold, or lightning damage.
Another major difference is that this Transfigured Gem allows you to summon three tornadoes at a time. The tornadoes move slowly, but this is compensated by the fact that enemies within their area of effect are hindered as well.
If you are not satisfied with the sluggish pace of the tornadoes, you can use the appropriate PoE Currency, Gemcutter’s Prisms, to raise the quality of the Transfigured Gem. As a result, they gain a 40% movement speed improvement.
That said, the PoE Inquisitor is the ascendancy class we have chosen for this build because his notable passive skills tap into the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence’s true potential.
Before that, it is important to note that our version of this Path of Exile Inquisitor build goes for more HP and survivability. Therefore, it is not a league starter, but you can make it work with a medium budget of 30 to 50 Divine Orbs. Of course, prices of some of its necessary gear may go beyond that depending on their current market value.
Anyway, the PoE Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor uses another spell called Righteous Fire. This is used not only to gain more spell damage but also as a means of helping you kill map monsters with minimal effort.
Despite the benefits it provides, Righteous Fire does have a notable downside in that you lose HP per second due to the burning damage. You can address this by raising your fire resistance beyond 75%, as well as taking the appropriate nodes from the PoE Inquisitor ascendancy tree.
Sanctuary enables you to conjure a Consecrated Ground (CG) by standing still for a couple of seconds. This Consecrated Ground is also enhanced by making nearby enemies take 15% increased damage.
Pious Path is a definite upgrade to Sanctuary because the Consecrated Ground now lets you recover energy shield as well. Furthermore, the beneficial effects granted by CG linger for several seconds, alleviating the need to be stationary for extended periods.
As soon as you have a considerably high spell critical strike chance, you can take Righteous Providence to help you achieve 100%. Inevitable Judgement makes it so that nearby enemies do not have any elemental resistances when calculating the damage done by your spells.
The ideal order of notable ascendancy passives for this PoE build are:
- Sanctuary
- Pious Path
- Righteous Providence
- Inevitable Judgement
Are you looking to improve your damage? Then be sure to snipe PoE Trade for items that include any of the following modifiers:
- Increased Elemental Damage
- Increased Spell Damage
- + to Level of Spell Skill Gems
- + to Level of Physical Spell Skill Gems
- + to Level of Fire/Cold/Lightning Skill Gems
- + to Maximum Life
- Increased Maximum Life
- + to Critical Strike Multiplier
Playstyle
Start by using Righteous Fire to gain a boost in spell damage. Do this whenever you enter a new area because, for some reason, RF does not get automatically activated.
Now, this PoE Inquisitor build entails a “cast-and-move” playstyle, where you cast Tornado of Elemental Turbulence, move to a different spot, and then use it again. The reason for this approach is that the damaging tornadoes you conjure affect a pretty wide area. As they slowly move forward, enemies that are caught within their AoE get eradicated shortly after.
Once you have reached the map boss, use Assassin’s Mark to greatly improve your chances of landing a critical strike. If you do not have Inevitable Judgement yet, Elemental Weakness is a decent alternative.
Keep in mind that the curse spells have to be manually utilized due to the absence of any automation mechanics, such as Mark on Hit Support or Hextouch.
Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor Gear Recommendations
Unlike most PoE Inquisitor builds that rely on skills that deal elemental damage, this one boosts damage in a rather peculiar way. Instead of allocating “Increased Spell Damage” nodes on the passive tree, this build prioritizes life nodes for damaging scaling. You will soon understand why when you read the following sections.
Weapon
The Tornado of Elemental Turbulence PoE, similar to other spells, gains a huge damage boost when the gem’s level is increased. This can be done by equipping the right items or utilizing Empower Support.
In line with that, The Dark Seer is a very useful sceptre that you can purchase for a Divine Orb (or two). It has a unique property that makes enemies take 10% increased damage due to Malediction. But more importantly, it causes your spell skill gems to gain two additional levels, which works well for Tornado of Elemental Turbulence damage scaling.
If you have at least 5,000 Primal Crystallised Lifeforce (the blue one), then go to the Horticrafting Station and enchant The Dark Seer with +1% increased elemental damage per 2% quality.
A more significant upgrade that you can take later on is the crafted endgame wand with spell damage, spell crit, and critical strike multiplier. Refer to our ultimate crafting guide to learn how to create this awesome weapon.
We recommend that you go for the Prophecy Wand as the crafting base for its high base crit chance. If you do not have enough INT to satisfy its attribute requirements, choose the Imbued Wand instead.
The PoE Tornado of Elemental Turbulence is one of the most exceptional skill gems in Path of Exile: Settlers of Kalguur. This is because it has eight different tags that allow you to improve its aspects through gear.
Case in point, if you are using the Harvest Bench to add the “+1 to Level of [blank] Spell Skill Gems” prefix, you could go for physical, fire, cold, or lightning and it would still raise the level of this PoE Tornado skill nevertheless.
Shield
Even if you opt for The Dark Seer instead of the crafted endgame wand, you can still attain a 100% spell critical strike chance by using the Rathpith Globe. If you recall, our version of this Path of Exile build scales damage differently.
Rather than prioritizing spell damage by taking the appropriate nodes on the passive tree, the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor actually scales life mainly due to the Rathpith Globe.
The shield’s unique effect is enhanced depending on your maximum life. While the 10% life sacrifice when using a skill can be a cause for concern, this build has more than enough life regeneration to address that.
Since this unique item is relatively cheap on PoE Trade, we suggest that you spend Vaal Orbs until you get the “% Increased Maximum Life” corrupted implicit mod.
Body Armor
Grinding Gear Games did something awesome for the PoE community in Patch 3.25. The once-nerfed Kaom’s Heart has now returned to its former glory, giving you a significant boost to your maximum life in exchange for not having any sockets.
Because unique items in Path of Exile can be corrupted with Vaal Orbs without changing their native values, you can do that with Kaom’s Heart and get another life mod similar to the one on the Rathpith Globe.
Helmet
The Crest of Desire is an interesting unique helmet in Path of Exile, to say the least. This thing only has one socket, but skill gems that are inserted here can gain up to eight additional levels and 50% increased quality! If that does not wow you, wait until you hear that the Crest of Desire enables the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence to deal double damage every time it is cast!
It is worth noting that the Crest of Desire can only be acquired from the Curio Displays in Heists.
Even though the Crest of Desire is an amazing helmet, there is one that outclasses it. Are you interested to know what it is? Well, it is none other than a crafted Archdemon Crown with Elder- and Shaper-influenced modifiers.
This particular helmet has a couple of unique implicit modifiers, where socketed skill gems gain plus two levels. Although it reduces the level of socketed support gems by the same amount, this is fine in terms of damage scaling. This is due to the fact that spells gain more damage through levels than attack skills in Path of Exile.
That said, go to PoE Trade and secure an ilvl 84+ Shaper- and Elder-influenced Archdemon Crown. Spam it with Essence of Horror (Socketed Gems Deal 30% More Elemental Damage) until you get the Hypothermia mod.
Put “Suffixes Cannot Be Changed” from the Crafting Bench and use an Orb of Scouring to clean the prefixes. Lock your suffixes again, only this time, head to the Horticrafting Station and utilize Harvest Reforge Critical to get spell crit (hopefully, at Tier 1).
Clean the prefixes once more and relock the suffixes similar to the process above. Then, spend a Veiled Orb, bench-craft “+1 to Level of Projectile Gems” and hope that you get +2 AoE gems.
At this point, there is no way to guarantee the Elder-influenced mod, so you have to take a gamble by using Exalted Orbs. If you are lucky, you might get the concentrated effect modifier which works great with the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence in PoE.
Gloves
This is one of the only equipment slots in the game where you can roll an increased life regeneration rate naturally (the other being the boots). Go get a pair of Paladin Gloves and make sure that it has an item level of 85. Next, utilize however many Essences of Rage you need until you get chaos resistance, life, and another mod of your choosing.
Use Grand Eldritch Ichors to increase the effect of marks by 11%. Assassin’s Mark is so useful for the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor that we encourage you to use Orb of Conflict. This PoE Currency, for those who are new to Path of Exile, raises the tier of the implicit mods gained from Eldritch Ichors and Eldritch Embers.
Boots
In this PoE Tornado build guide, we advise you to craft footwear similar to the Onslaught Boots from our crafting guide, albeit you are going for the veiled mod that grants 100% Chill avoidance. Craft the boots with the Deafening Essence of Rage until you get chaos resistance and life regeneration rate.
After that, lock the suffixes and go for Harvest Reforge Life. Ideally, you want to go for the Tier 1 life mod, but having a Tier 2 or Tier 3 “+ to Maximum Life” is not bad at all. When you are satisfied, bench-craft “100% Chance to Avoid Being Frozen.” That’s it!
Amulet
A crafted Focused Amulet with life and “+2 to Level of All Skill Gems” modifiers is the best one for the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor. You can utilize the Orb of Alteration crafting method until you get the skill gem prefix.
Go to the Crafting Bench and put “Prefixes Cannot Be Changed.” Once that’s done, head to the Horticrafting Station and use Harvest Augment Life. Repeat this step as necessary if you want to obtain the T1 life mod. Bench-craft any suffix that you want and you’re all good!
If you are still not satisfied with the result, you could use the Reflecting Mist and hope that the crafted modifier is the only one that gets inverted. Doing this may improve the effects of explicit modifiers on the amulet even further, though this is subject to RNG. Should you proceed with this, make sure that you bench-craft a modifier that does not negatively affect the build.
When you’re finished crafting the Focused Amulet, anoint it with Golem’s Blood (Teal Oil, 2x Golden Oils) to get a couple of useful life mods.
Rings
The Vermillion Ring is the best item to craft on because of that increased maximum life implicit mod. Spam an ilvl 85+ Vermillion Ring with the Deafening Essence of Scorn (global crit multi) until you get life, STR, and chaos resistance.
Take note that you are going to use the Blood Magic keystone on this PoE Inquisitor build. Because of this, activating your auras will reserve life instead of mana. To reduce the amount of life required by your auras, you could purchase a ring with the Delve mod: “% Increased Life Reservation Efficiency of Skills.”
Aside from that, you can take your chances and use a Fracturing Orb. If you were able to fracture the aforementioned Delve mod, you can proceed to spamming the ring with the Essence of Scorn to guarantee the global critical strike multiplier.
Belt
You can craft a decent Leather Belt until you have the PoE Currency to obtain the Mageblood. Get an ilvl 85+ Hunter-influenced Leather Belt and use Harvest Reforge Life to get a few life modifiers, such as:
- + to Maximum Life
- % Increased Maximum Life
- Regenerate # Life per Second
The Mageblood is just a major quality-of-life improvement because of the permanent uptime of your utility flasks. If you want to get your hands on the Mageblood in the Necro-Settlers League, then head to our PoE Store today!
Flasks
- Ruby Flask
- Topaz Flask
- Sapphire Flask
- Quicksilver Flask
- Bottled Faith OR Progenesis
Flask Mods
- 14% Increased Movement Speed (of the Cheetah)
- 20% Additional Elemental Resistances (of the Rainbow)
- 55% Chance to Avoid Being Shocked (of Bog Moss)
- Regenerate 3% Life per Second During Effect (of the Order, Bench-crafted)
Jewels
The PoE Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor, at least our version of the build, uses a couple of unique jewels. Chief among them is Glorious Vanity, specifically one that says: “...sacrificed in the name of Doryani.” When inserting this Timeless Jewel into a socket, the nearby keystone will be transformed into Corrupted Soul.
When allocated, Corrupted Soul grants a considerable amount of energy shield based on your maximum life. This keystone is known for improving your defenses as well. Specifically, it causes physical and elemental damage to bypass energy shield so that they can be mitigated by your other defensive layers.
If you are all about boosting damage, invest in the Forbidden Flame and Forbidden Flesh jewel with “Unwavering Crusade” as the matching modifier. This allows you to call forth an Elemental Relic, which provides you with the effect of a level 27 Anger, Hatred, and Wrath aura depending on the minion that was summoned.
A Watcher’s Eye could make your enemies take increased damage if they are standing on the Consecrated Ground you create, provided that you have the right Zealotry mod.

Passive Skill Tree
Most PoE Inquisitor builds do not go for life nodes on the passive tree, but this one begs to differ. Although you can technically league start with this build, our version of the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence does require some investment, especially because it scales damage by increasing maximum life as much as possible.
Having said that, we will go over some of the keystones that you need to get. Aside from Corrupted Soul, you take Blood Magic as well. This gives you a large chunk of HP to work with, though it does remove your mana in the process. As a result, your auras now reserve life.
With the presence of Petrified Blood in your skill gems setup, you can take advantage of Pain Attunement for 30% more spell damage. This is because Petrified Blood already puts your HP to 50%, meaning, it only takes a bit of damage for you to be considered “in low life.” Along with the 10% life sacrifice of Rathpith Globe, you’ll always satisfy this condition every time you cast your skills.
As for the Masteries on this PoE Inquisitor build, you only need to take all of the Life Masteries on the passive tree to gain 10% more life. It is up to you what other Masteries you will get.
Tips and Strategies
Level Up Your Skill Gems: Spell skills in Path of Exile gain a substantial damage boost when they go beyond level 20. This is even more pronounced on the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor, so make it a point to raise the level of the Transfigured Gem as high as you can.
Choose Righteous Providence: Our PoE Tornado build guide would have you choose Sanctuary after completing the normal lab. However, there is nothing wrong with going for Righteous Providence as your first ascendancy node. In fact, it is even better if you already have enough items that increase your spell crit to 100%.
Corrupt Gems to 21: Use Vaal Orbs to corrupt level 20 gems for a chance to increase their power. The additional level can somewhat mitigate the “-2 to Level of Support Gems” penalty of your crafted helmet in the endgame.
Cast Speed is Nice: Although the build does not require you to have cast speed, putting this mod on some of your PoE Gear does not hurt. If anything, it will allow you to unleash tornadoes a bit faster.
Equip Dialla’s Malefaction: If you want to play this build as a league starter, wear Dialla’s Malefaction and put the Tornado of Elemental Turbulence in a red socket for the plus two levels bonus.

Final Thoughts
It is incredible what a Transfigured Gem can do in Path of Exile: Settlers of Kalguur. The Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor is capable of dealing with challenging monsters, even those that are found in T17 maps.
By stacking life mods, you can leverage the unique effects of the Rathpith Globe, Pain Attunement, and Righteous Fire to gain a significant boost in spell damage. Sure, this particular PoE Inquisitor build needs a budget of around 30 to 50 Divine Orbs to start, but the linear upgrade path just makes things a lot easier later on.
