Why Choose the Ice Spear of Splitting Inquisitor?

This PoE Ice Spear build involves a few key mechanics to pull off. The first is your primary damaging skill called the Ice Spear of Splitting. This is a Transfigured Gem that only prompts you to fire a single projectile, though it splits whenever it comes into contact with an enemy or terrain.

Raising the skill gem’s quality to 20% using the right PoE Currency would allow you to hit up to seven targets. With this innate property, you do not have to aim at all, which makes the Ice Spear of Splitting Inquisitor a good build for those who like a “lazy” playstyle!

The said Ice Spear gem is administered in a different way. Instead of self-casting it, you have to utilize Cyclone linked to Cast on Critical Strike (CoC). As the name implies, CoC triggers supported skills whenever you land a critical hit on the enemy.

To maximize the trigger rate of Cast on Critical Strike, you have to achieve a 100% critical strike chance. If you are a long-time Path of Exile player, you might already know who to call! But for complete beginners, the Inquisitor ascendancy PoE is the perfect fit!

The Inquisitor’s Righteous Providence already sorts out your critical strike chance without actively investing in it on your gear. Because you can consistently hit enemies with devastating attacks/spells, Inevitable Judgement brings the pain by making sure that the elemental resistance of your enemies is ignored when calculating for overall damage.

Playstyle

What is enticing about this PoE Ice Spear of Splitting build is that it has one of the most comfortable playstyles ever in the game. As mentioned before, there is no need for manual aiming here. Simply press and hold Cyclone and then move around the map to see enemies die almost instantly!

There are underlying mechanics that make the build work, but the good news is that, on the surface, you only need to use Cyclone and that’s it! Another cool thing about Cyclone is that you can actually use Frostblink and still continue to spin while doing so! Do this when you need to reposition yourself for maximum gains.

As for the other movement skills, you have a choice between Whirling Blades and Leap Slam. Whirling Blades is less clunky, especially when used in conjunction with Frostblink. Leap Slam, however, allows you to go over obstacles. So really, it’s all a matter of preference.

What do you need to do in order to bring the best out of this Ice Spear PoE build? Well, the first thing that you need to keep in mind is that this is an attribute stacker, particularly focusing on raising Strength and Intelligence as high as you can.

Aside from that, having a high amount of HP bodes well for this build. This is because your maximum life is converted to energy shield by using a specific unique item. Gear-wise, the Ice Spear of Splitting Inquisitor is easy to put up, so long as you have enough Divine Orbs in your possession to make that a reality.

Weapon

Since you are using Energy Blade, the choice of weapon does not matter as long as it is a one-handed weapon. This is because the skill completely replaces the effects of your original weapon except for its jewel sockets.

For that reason, get any weapon of your choosing and use a Hollow Fossil to craft it. Doing so will guarantee an abyssal socket, which you can use to insert an Abyss Jewel with modifiers that provide attributes, energy shield, and life.

Shield

This particular Inquisitor build in Path of Exile utilizes the Rathpith Globe to a great extent. It enhances your spell damage, as well as spell critical strike chance, depending on your maximum life. Helmet

The best unique item that scales the damage of the Ice Spear skill gem even further is the Crown of the Inward Eye. This thing has Transfiguration of Soul, which grants spell damage depending on your energy shield.

Now, you could wear an uncorrupted version of this just fine. However, purchasing one with a “Socketed Skill Gems Get a 90% Cost & Reservation Multiplier” corrupted mod allows you to activate a couple more auras that reserve life. This translates to even more energy shield via The Ivory Tower!

The Glimpse of Chaos is a decent alternative if you cannot afford the previous helmet (with the corrupted implicit mod). This unique item increases your life, mana, and energy shield considerably at the cost of reduced elemental resistance. However, the main reason why it is a good option is that it may roll with “Skills Fire an Additional Projectile” by using a Vaal Orb.

You see, modifiers that affect a skill’s projectile count effectively double the damage of PoE Ice Spear of Splitting. The helmet is the only equipment slot where you can get this particular mod, making Glimpse of Chaos a viable second option.

Gloves

Even though Path of Exile: Settlers of Kalguur has a wide selection of unique items available to you, the Shaper’s Touch is one of the best for this build, mainly because of its attribute-based scaling modifiers.

With the total attributes you are going to have in the endgame, these gloves will sort out your accuracy without looking for it on other pieces of gear. Additionally, having more Strength is better for you overall because of the gloves’ unique property, where you gain a 1% increased energy shield per 10 points of STR.

Boots

Although we recommend that you wear the Onslaught Boots later on, The Stampede is a decent first option, which you can get about a couple of days into a new league. These boots have two unique modifiers that make them appealing for the Ice Spear of Splitting Inquisitor.

For one, these boots prevent your movement speed from dipping below 150% of its base value. This addresses the 30% movement speed penalty of Cyclone, allowing you to move as if you were unhindered while spinning.

Amulet

Some of the PoE gear for the Ice Spear of Splitting Inquisitor can go a long way even if they do not cost an exorbitant amount of Divine Orbs! One such item is the Astramentis — a well-known unique amulet that provides all of the goods for attribute-stacking builds. A well-rolled Astramentis can be worn until you have the budget for a much better amulet.

So what amulet can possibly replace Astramentis? Well, the Eyes of the Greatwolf is definitely something to strive for. It can roll with different corrupted implicit modifiers, but the ones you are looking for are “% Increased Attributes” and “+% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier.”

Other useful mods include:

• % Increased Global Defenses
• % Increased Damage
• % Increased Maximum Life
• % Increased Spell Damage
• % Increased Attack and Cast Speed
• % Increased Lightning Damage

Take note that you can only swap the crit strike multiplier with any of the mod alternatives outlined above. Never replace the percentage attributes because it plays a vital role in your success.

Rings

Assuming that you are not using the Glimpse of Chaos, you could wear a couple of 85+ Amethyst Rings (Chaos Resistance) that are crafted with the Essence of Spite (INT) or the Essence of Rage (STR). Spam the rings with any of these essences until you get the opposite attribute, as well as energy shield, life, and chaos resistance.

A well-crafted Helical Ring defeats the Amethyst Ring, primarily because it can have several suffixes at the cost of only having one prefix. That is fine considering that the suffix mods provide more value to this PoE build than any prefixes could.

Belt

Okay, we admit that the endgame items for this PoE Ice Spear build are expensive. However, as we discussed earlier, there are things that you can definitely use in the meantime until you have enough currency to get the more coveted stuff.

The Cyclopean Coil is an absolute beast when it comes to the value it provides to attribute stackers. This thing can get as high as 15% increased attributes on a perfect roll. Plus, you get a 1% damage boost per five points of your lowest attribute (in this case, that would be DEX).

Even if your Dexterity is not as enormous as your Strength or Intelligence, having 200 points of DEX, for example, would still yield a 40% improvement on offense!

Despite Cyclopean Coil’s amazing modifiers, you will ultimately replace it with a well-crafted Stygian Vise. This belt allows you to insert an Abyssal Jewel for even more damage!

Anyway, the Stygian Vise cannot roll any attribute other than STR. Because of this, use the Deafening Essence of Spite to guarantee INT. Spam the belt until you get life, chaos resistance, and energy shield.

If you want to go even further, use an Orb of Annulment to open up a suffix slot. After that, spend a Hunter Exalted Orb for a chance of obtaining the mod: “12% Increased Attributes.”

Jewels

In the previous section of this PoE build guide, you may have noticed that you only need three flasks, namely the Topaz Flask, Sapphire Flask, and the unique Ruby Flask called the Coruscating Elixir.

Well, the main reason is that you are going to use Brutal Restraint (Balbala) to get access to The Traitor. This is a Timeless Jewel-only keystone passive that allows you to gain several flask charges every five seconds per empty flask slot. Since you have two empty slots, you will get eight flask charges even without moving!

Coruscating Elixir is a huge part of your defense. Normally, chaos damage in Path of Exile bypasses your energy shield, reducing your life immediately in the process. With Coruscating Elixir, you do not have to worry about whatever HP you have left unreserved because this flask ensures that your energy shield will take care of the damage.

As an attribute stacker, the crafted accessories, as well as certain unique items already give you heaps of STR and INT. However, it certainly does not hurt if you want more! Get two Split Personality jewels, specifically with +5 to Strength and +5 to Intelligence. If this is not possible with your current budget, you could opt for life or energy shield.

In most cases, you will have more STR than INT on this PoE build. To make sure that nothing goes to waste in terms of damage output, allocate Iron Will so that the inherent damage bonus of Strength also applies to spell damage.

Since you are already reserving a huge chunk of your maximum life, why not get more spell damage by way of Pain Attunement? It’s basically a free damage boost, so you might as well take advantage of it, no?

Lastly, Unwavering Stance is a good way to survive in T17 maps or areas that are riddled with monsters. The fact that you are not wearing any evasion-based gear just tells you that this keystone is a must-have for granting immunity to stun.

• Always Use Intrinsic Catalysts on Your Accessories: Your amulet, belt, and rings all have attributes in them. This is the reason why spamming them with Intrinsic Catalysts is a good idea to increase the attribute bonuses they provide.
• Craft the Weapon with a Hollow Fossil: This puts an abyssal socket on your main weapon, allowing you to insert an Abyssal Jewel for more attributes, life, and energy shield.
• Try Cyclone of Tumult: The transfigured version of Cyclone has more attack speed, which can greatly improve Ice Spear of Splitting’s trigger rate. Just remember that it slows you down even more than the base version, so you may have to use Frostblink more often if you go for this Transfigured Gem.
• Opt for Strength: While raising STR and INT is one of your primary objectives, if you have to choose between the two, always go for more Strength. This is because this attribute gives life, energy shield, and damage (via Iron Will).
• Choose Vaal Discipline: In our opinion, a lvl 20 Vaal Discipline is better than a 21/23 (normal) Discipline skill. This is because the Vaal skill prevents damage from disrupting energy shield recharge, making it an invaluable tool to use in sticky situations.
