Game Guides , Path of Exile 2
Are you struggling to get a decent amount of Exalted Orbs in PoE 2? This has been a problem for many Path of Exile 2 players ever since Early Access launched in December. It seems that Grinding Gear Games has been too stingy to give anything more than an Exalted Orb in every two maps.
Well, we’re here to tell you that there is some good news. We’ve found some secrets to help you get more Exalted Orbs in a short amount of time. If you are interested in learning this information, then go ahead and read this article to the end. We will provide you with some awesome tips on how to get Exalted Orbs in Path of Exile 2!
What is the Exalted Orb?
A guide that is exclusively for farming PoE 2 Exalted Orbs effectively should begin by defining what the item actually is, no? The main function of the Exalted Orb is to add modifiers to a rare item—may it be a weapon, armor, accessory, or Waystone.
A rare item in Path of Exile 2 can have as many as six affixes, with each item containing three prefixes and the same number of suffixes as well.
In terms of crafting, the Exalted Orb is typically utilized after spending a Regal Orb on a magic item or an Orb of Alchemy on a normal item. This allows you to complete the crafting project and have all of an item’s six affix slots populated.
Aside from crafting items, the Exalted Orb is used as the main PoE 2 currency for trade as well. As to why it is being utilized this way compared to other currencies available in the game, it’s probably because the Exalted Orb is rare and has some practical uses, especially in the endgame.
When shopping for suitable pieces of gear on the trade website, for example, you will find that most of the items on sale are being sold for one or two exalts. Those that have much better modifiers are priced higher, ranging anywhere between 30 to 50 Exalted Orbs or more.
Where to Get Exalted Orb?
How do you get an Exalted Orb in PoE 2? The Exalted Orb can be obtained randomly by defeating monsters, opening chests, and eliminating bosses in the game. Most people overlook chests and random urns because they think that these do not contain anything valuable. Well, there are times that we’ve obtained an Exalted Orb just by opening a seemingly normal treasure chest, so we suggest that you do not skip them.
In addition, there are many things that can influence the drop rate of this currency item. Waystones that have specific modifiers are just a prime example of this. We will discuss this in greater detail later on in this PoE 2 Exalted Orb guide.
Exalted Orb Farming Tips
As we have promised, we will provide you with some great tips in this PoE 2 Exalted Orb farming guide so that you’ll gain more of said currency than ever before! So, without further ado, let’s begin!
Run Low-Level Ultimatums
Have you completed your first two Trials of Ascendancy in Path of Exile 2? If so, you might want to revisit one of them, specifically the Trial of Chaos. The reason for doing this is that the Trial of Chaos can reward you with soul cores.
Soul cores are items that can be inserted into a piece of gear with sockets. The Soul Core of Tacati, for example, increases your chaos resistance by 7% when socketed into armor. At the time of writing, each soul core is sold for five Exalted Orbs!
However, there is one particular soul core that is priced way higher than others—the Soul Core of Azcapa. Right now, this item costs a Divine Orb each on PoE 2 trade!
There are about 15 different soul cores in the game, so you have about 1 in 15 chances to get the coveted Soul Core of Azcapa.
Now, before you set foot in the Trial of Chaos, you must have some Inscribed Ultimatums with you. But, don’t get just about any Inscribed Ultimatum, no! Acquire a low-level one that has an area level of below 50 (or precisely four trials).
Your goal here is to farm soul cores; not acquire points for your ascendancy class. A low-level Inscribed Ultimatum is all you need to efficiently farm this content without the risk of dying.
Once you have defeated the bird boss in the fourth trial, interact with the reward cache at the end of the area and hope that you get a more expensive soul core for your (minimal) effort!
Juice Your Waystones
If your character has no problems engaging in tougher content, then you might want to try juicing your Waystones. The term “juicing” here simply refers to adding modifiers to your Waystone, making it harder but more rewarding.
Having said that, a simple Orb of Alchemy should suffice because using this particular currency puts several random modifiers on your Waystone without using anything else. There are specific mods that you want, though, and they are:
- Increased Quantity of Items Found
- Increased Rarity of Items Found
- Increased Number of Rare Monsters
- Increased Magic Monsters
You want the maps that you want to farm to have good monster density because the increased number of monsters also raises your chance of getting Exalted Orbs. Make sure that your build is capable of deleting enemies with AoE skills for maximum efficiency.
Use Distilled Emotions
Distilled Ire, Distilled Guilt, and Distilled Greed are items that are part of the new “Distilled Emotions” in Path of Exile 2. You can use them to instill your Waystones, granting them a beneficial effect depending on the type you’ve chosen.
We recommend Distilled Greed because it straight-up increases the rarity of items found on the map. You can place a few of these in the “Instilling” UI to gain a 24% increased item rarity.
Invest in Increased Rarity Items
Did you know that you can roll increased item rarity on gear in PoE 2? Almost all pieces of gear that your character can use, with the exception of the weapon and body armor, can get the explicit modifier: “% Increased Rarity of Items Found” (or IIR for short).
IIR is incredibly OP in the current iteration of the game. It turns out that this particular modifier can influence not only the equipment that drops but also the currency. As you can tell, this mod greatly influences how common Exalted Orbs can drop by defeating monsters!
Keep in mind that it is not at all surprising if GGG will implement tweaks that will balance IIR to some degree. For now, you can definitely put IIR mods on your items and reap the benefits!
Load Up Precursor Tablets
Monsters not only drop Waystones but Precursor Tablets as well. These things can be placed inside Lost Towers, which will influence the maps that surround said towers by adding new modifiers.
For instance, a Precursor Tablet that has the “Plundering” prefix can increase the quantity of items found in maps by a certain percentage.
It is best that you find areas on the Atlas that have Lost Towers that are close by. This is so that you can influence many more maps in the process. Using Precursor Tablets that add Breach or Delirium to nearby maps also helps due to the increased monster density when engaging with these endgame systems.
Look for Maps with Expeditions
Another endgame system that can potentially net you plenty of Exalted Orbs in Path of Exile 2 is Expedition. This is a type of endgame content found randomly in certain maps, where you place several explosive devices to uncover some lost Kalguuran Treasures.
That said, Engaging with Expedition encounters in maps may drop Expedition Logbooks. When used, these logbooks will transport you to a map that is dedicated exclusively to this type of content.
We’re going to let you in on a little secret. Each “Unearthed Remnant” grants a different bonus depending on the type you’ve put explosives on. For example, you will occasionally find an Unearthed Remnant that increases the quantity of Expedition Logbooks dropped by runic monsters.
If you place the first explosive on that particular remnant, the runic monsters that spawn from subsequent remnants are going to be influenced by the same modifier as well. This goes for other modifiers, so feel free to use this strategy however you see fit!
Allocate the Right Atlas Passives
Certain nodes on the Atlas Passive Tree grant increased item quantity and rarity. An example of this is Lucky Pillage.
Another node that you want to take is Local Knowledge. This increases the basic currency drop rate by 40% when you are farming in swamp and water biome maps.
Examine each of the nodes on the tree and take each one that improves monster density and item rarity.
Sell Items on Trade
This might seem simple on the surface but you’ll be surprised with the number of people that do not know how to trade items to other players.
Selling items in Path of Exile 2 requires you to purchase a Premium Stash Tab first and foremost. You can wait for the stash tab sale every three weeks or buy it directly from the in-game store at any time.
When you have a Premium Stash Tab, right-click on it so that you can set it to Public. This is a needed step because doing so will make the items that you’ve set in that stash tab to be visible to other players.
Once the stash is public, put any item that you want to sell and right-click on it again. This time, input the exact price for that item using the Exalted Orb as the preferred currency. After pressing the check mark, just wait until another player sends you an in-game message.
Farm the Infested Barrens
Okay, all of the tips presented above work well for high-level characters. But what if you have a low-level character that is still finding its way into the game? Fortunately, there is a good farming spot for Exalted Orbs in the campaign, though you have to be in Cruel Difficulty for this to work.
Head to Act 3 Cruel Difficulty and search for the Infested Barrens. This map has a relatively good monster density for an area that you can explore during the campaign.
Another area you can explore for the purposes of farming Exalted Orbs in PoE 2 is the Sandswept Marsh. This is the first area you’ll be in when you reach Act 3. It has some monsters that you can fight and a boss that’s easy to take down.
When to Use an Exalted Orb?
In most cases, the Exalted Orb should only be used to trade for items that can take your character to the next level. Although it is certainly meant for finishing crafted items, the current state of crafting in Path of Exile 2 relies heavily on RNG since there is currently no way to deterministically add specific modifiers on gear. Therefore, it is a wise decision to save your Exalted Orbs for obtaining items from other players via trade.
Not using Exalted Orbs to populate all affix slots on your equipment is just a recommendation. You can do that if that’s what you want; we’re just telling you that the said currency is better spent elsewhere due to the nature of crafting at this point of PoE 2 Early Access.
Aside from buying items off the trade website, spend your Exalted Orbs to juice up your Waystones. Farming in an area with all six map modifiers will make the content hard, without a doubt, but doing so also increases your chances of getting high-quality loot.
Final Thoughts
The Exalted Orb is a type of currency that augments an item in Path of Exile 2, adding a new random modifier with each use. Its function can lead to awesome results and it’s rare enough to be considered valuable, which is why it is the primary currency used for trade in the game.
Despite how powerful item rarity is in the game, you still need to devote a lot of time to get enough of this coveted currency item. If time is something you don’t have, we understand that completely, which is why we’re offering you something you can’t refuse!
