Game Guides , Path of Exile 2
Details are sparse for Path of Exile 2. We know tidbits of gameplay about the game but other than that, the developers seem pretty mum about when we're getting the game. On the other hand, they're busy preparing for the launch of a Path of Exile 2 close beta which will give us a glimpse of what we can expect in the future.
Path of Exile 2 Closed Beta Release Date
As per developer Grinding Gear Games, the Path of Exile 2 closed beta phase will begin on June 7, 2024. We've yet to know how long the beta phase will be but if we're going to base it on the release of the past game, the closed beta will run indefinitely and will constantly be updated to newer test phases until the game launches.
How To Sign Up For Path Of Exile 2 Closed Beta?
For now, we don't know how to get access to the Path of Exile 2 closed beta. Again, basing on the previous game, it's likely that the developers are going to be offering starter packs. The starter packs could include a copy of the game at launch, extra items, as well as access to beta phases.
However, as the game has become significantly bigger other players are speculating that the developer could also offer random invites to players upon having them sign up for the test phase. This is all just pure speculation though so we have to wait for the developer's exact plans on this.
What To Expect From The Closed Beta?
The beta phases for Path of Exile weren't simply access to the game's combat or various systems. The developers gave players the chance to play through full acts during the beta phases. The same could happen when it comes to Path of Exile 2's closed beta.
For Path of Exile, the developers gave players access up to Act 3 which was gradually released across multiple test phases. Hopefully, we can expect the same amount of content for the closed beta in the sequel. At the very least, we could be getting access to the new classes.
As this is a test phase for the game, it's also fair to expect a few bugs and glitches along the way. On the other hand, players could be able to continue their progress well into the full game when it finally launches.
What's New In Path of Exile 2?
Path of Exile 2 introduces significant changes to combat dynamics compared to its predecessor. All character classes now have access to a dodge roll with no cooldown or limitations. While it doesn't provide invulnerability in damage areas, a well-timed dodge can cause enemy melee strikes and projectiles to miss. Another major addition is weapon switching, allowing players to set specific skills for each equipped weapon. Passive skill points can be allocated to each weapon slot, enabling specialization for different skills, fostering more diverse builds.
Uncut gems in Path of Exile 2 are a new drop that allows players to choose any skill in the game when found, receiving a gem at an appropriate level. Support gems are now applied directly to chosen skill gems, eliminating the need for linked armor slots. This change prompts a return to focusing on finding quality items in drops, moving away from heavy reliance on crafting.
Path of Exile 2 introduces six new classes alongside those from the first game, each aligned with a specific stat distribution. These new classes start in the same locations on the passive skill tree as the original classes but feature unique Ascendancies and quest rewards. The Scion class is likely to make a return as well.
Leagues in Path of Exile 2 operate on a 13-week cycle, similar to seasons in other ARPGs like Diablo. Joining a seasonal league requires starting a new character at level one, devoid of previous poe 2 currency, items, or progression. However, participating in a league allows engagement with its unique mechanics. Leagues also bring balance changes, class updates, and new skill gems to foster fresh builds. With Path of Exile 2 and the original game running simultaneously, their leagues follow a similar but offset schedule, enabling dedicated players to enjoy both experiences.
