OSRS Watchtower quest is one of the oldest quests that exists in the game. It is so old that the NPCs in this quest can’t be found anywhere else across all of Glienor. This quest will allow access to the Ogre city, which is required for some clue steps and it houses a pretty decent cave with blue dragons for any dragon slayers out there. Furthermore completing this quest will provide some decent Magic experience and the ability to teleport to the Watchtower. This makes accessing Yanille that much easier. Without going on any further let’s start this easy quest!

Part 1: Starting the Quest
- Head to the Watchtower north of Yanille

Part 5: The Ogre Enclave
- Prepare for enclave:
- Equip anti-dragon shield
- Bring magic ogre potion
- Get cave nightshade
- Bring pickaxe
- Inside enclave:
- Use nightshade on guard to enter
- Use potion on all 6 ogre shamans
- Collect cyan crystal after last shaman
- Mine Rock of Dalgroth for final crystal
Part 6: Completing Quest
- Return to Watchtower with all crystals:
- Yellow crystal → south-west pillar
- Grey crystal → south-east pillar
- Cyan crystal → north-west pillar
- Magenta crystal → north-east pillar
- Pull lever on west wall
Congratulations, quest complete!
Long Guide
Note: If you don't have a house in Yanille, you can use the Nightmare Zone or Fishing Trawler minigame teleport to get there. These can only be used once every 20 minutes, and you'll need to meet Nightmare Zone requirements first.
Important Warnings:
- Throughout this quest, many ogres can be talked to, but some will attack you - particularly the Ogre Shamans who hit for 20 damage. Follow this guide carefully to avoid unnecessary damage!
- You can prepare some ingredients early: the guam leaf can be added to water, and bat bones can be ground. This frees up inventory space by letting you bank the pestle and mortar. Don't combine the powdered bones with the unfinished potion or it will explode!
- Ironman players may struggle to get dragon bones at lower levels. If you're a Hardcore Ironman especially, you might want to get them from Elvarg in Nightmare Zone after Dragon Slayer I rather than risking the Wilderness.
Access to Yanille:
- Fairy ring CIQ (located northwest of Yanille)
- From ring, enter city via farming patch shortcut (requires 16 Agility)
Starting the Quest
Items needed:
- Combat gear
- Slashing weapon recommended
- Food supplies
- 2 ropes
- Dragon bones
- Making Your Way to the Watchtower: Head to the imposing Watchtower just north of Yanille's northwest corner. You'll spot a trellis on the northern wall - climb this to get inside. This actually gives you 31 Agility XP and lets you skip talking to the ground floor guard every time you enter.
- Meeting the Wizard: Once inside, climb the ladder to reach the top floor. Speak with the Watchtower wizard, who explains their predicament - the tower's protective spell has failed because the crystals powering it were stolen! The ogres are behind this theft, and the wizard needs your help to recover them.
- The First Clue: After starting, you'll be tasked with searching the Watchtower grounds. While you can use the main ladder now, the trellis is still faster. Search the far northwest bush to find some fingernails. You might find other items in other bushes (old robe, unusual armor, damaged dagger, tattered eye patch) but these are just red herrings.
- The Investigation Begins: Return to the Watchtower wizard with the fingernails. He reveals they belong to Skavids - servants of the ogres who have stolen four powerful crystals protecting the city. To recover these crystals, you'll first need to gain access to the ogre city.
Getting the Relic Pieces
To enter the ogre city, you'll need to help three ogre chieftains and collect pieces of an ogre relic. Each chieftain has their own task and personality - here's how to handle each one:
Meeting Og's Tribe: First stop is Og's tribe. Here's how to get there:
- Exit through Yanille's west gate
- Head northwest to find the ogre settlement
- Look for ogres wielding maces - these ones won't attack you
- Talk to Og to learn about his stolen gold
- He'll give you a key to Toban's chest - keep this safe!
Grew and His Island: Next up is Grew's territory:
- Travel south from Og's tribe
- You'll spot an island with ogres and jangerberries
- Find the long-branched tree on the west shore
- Use your rope on the BRANCH (not the tree itself) to swing across
- Note: You'll lose the rope in this process
- Grab some jangerberries - you'll need these later
- Talk to Grew about teaching his enemy Gorad a lesson
- Make sure you have inventory space for Gorad's tooth!
Dealing with Toban and Gorad: Time to visit the final tribe:
- Leave Grew's island using the north rope swing
- You have two options to reach Toban: a) Enter Skavid caves south of Grew's island 4 times (without map) b) Take the long route southeast around Gu'Tanoth
- Look for a broken bridge leading to a small island
- Continue south of the bridge
- Turn west along Gu'Tanoth's southern edge
- Find a hole surrounded by rocks (west-northwest of gnome glider)
- Grab the death rune south of the hole if needed
Toban's Cave and Gorad
Once you enter the hole, you'll find yourself on an island with Toban's tribe. Here's what to do:
Dealing with Gorad
- Find level 68 chieftain Gorad south of the ladder
- Tell him you've come to knock his teeth out
- He'll attack - defeat him for a tooth
- Tip: Rangers/Mages can safespot from the island's center
Negotiating with Toban
- Speak to Toban after defeating Gorad
- He wants dragon bones to chew on
- Give him the bones (baby dragon bones won't work!)
- Remember not to bury them by accident
- He'll give you the third relic piece
Retrieving Og's Gold
- Open Toban's chest on the island
- You'll find Og's stolen gold inside
- Tip: A rope spawns near the roots southwest of the ladder if you need one for returning to Grew's island
Completing the Relic
Now it's time to return the items:
- Leave via the ladder
- Head back to Grew's island (use rope on tree)
- Give Grew the tooth
- He'll give you a relic piece AND the yellow crystal
- Take jangerberries if you haven't already
- Return to Og
- Give him his gold back for the final relic piece
Take all three pieces to the Watchtower wizard for assembly. While you're there, grab a candle from the ground floor if you need a light source.
Accessing Gu'Tanoth
Items needed:
- 20 coins (27 if buying pestle and mortar/vial)
- Anti-dragon shield
- Death rune
- Ogre relic
- Gold bar
- Tinderbox
- Light source
Entering the Ogre City
Getting to Gu'Tanoth:
- Leave Yanille (use southern grapple shortcut or west gate)
- Head southeast until you see a path up to Gu'Tanoth
- Follow path up the hill
- Alternative: Use Skavid caves "transport system" twice without map
Meeting the Guards:
- Take northwest path at the split
- Talk to guards with ogre relic in inventory
- Note: Using relic on them doesn't work
- They'll let you into the city once you show the relic
The Market Area Things to know about the market:
- Most ogres won't attack
- Watch out for Ogre traders - they will attack if spoken to
- Find Grud (labeled "Ogre merchant")
- He sells Herblore supplies if needed
- Buy pestle and mortar/vial (7 coins total) if you don't have them
- Getting the Rock Cake:
- Find southern food stall (gray cylinders)
- Steal rock cake
- Warning: Left-click eats the cake
- If eaten, you'll need to steal another
Guard Checkpoint:
- Return to main path and go south
- Find two more guards
- Careful: Wrong dialogue gets you kicked out
- Tell them you're a friend of ogres (first option)
- They'll ask for market food
- Use (don't eat!) rock cake on guard
The Bridge Challenge:
- Continue until you reach broken bridge
- Click "Jump-Over" on your side of the gap
- Guards demand payment
- Pay 20 coins to cross
- Tip: Grab knife here if you need a slash weapon for webs
Learning the Skavid Language
Getting the Skavid Map
- After crossing the bridge, find city guards
- They'll give you a word puzzle
- Answer is "death rune"
- Give them the death rune for Skavid map
- Note: Keep map for Ardougne medium diary task!
The Skavid Cave System Required items:
- Skavid map
- Light source
- Gold bar
The caves are scattered around the city's north and east sides. You'll need both the map and light source to enter. Here's the process:
Finding the Scared Skavid
- First visit cave #1 (east of Gu'Tanoth)
- Find the scared skavid
- Promise not to hurt it
- It will teach you basic Skavid words
Learning the Language Visit each regular Skavid in order and give correct responses:
Cave #2 (Northeast path):
- They say: "Bidith tanath"
- You respond: "Cur"
Cave #3 (North of city):
- They say: "Gor cur"
- You respond: "Ar"
Cave #4 (Near west gate):
- They say: "Cur bidith"
- You respond: "Ig"
- Tip: Grab cave nightshade here
Cave #5 (East mountain):
- They say: "Tanath gor"
- You respond: "Nod"
- The Mad Skavid Test Once you've learned the basics:
- Return to scared skavid
- They'll say you're ready for Mad skavid
- Go to southeastern path
- Use gold bar on guard for access
- Cross bridge to cave
- Study Mad skavid's phrases carefully

Success rewards you with the magenta crystal. Before leaving:
- Collect two cave nightshades from inside
- Don't eat them - they cause damage

Entering the Ogre Enclave

- 2 cave nightshades
Preparing for Entry
- Return to Gu'Tanoth marketplace
- Find enclave guards near west cave entrance
- Use (don't eat!) nightshade on guard
- Complete dialogue fully or lose nightshade
- Warning will appear about enclave danger
- Enter when ready
Inside the Enclave
- Watch cutscene with Ogre shaman and Blue dragon
- Warning: Don't talk to or attack shamans
- They hit 20-30 damage instantly
- Two crystals are here but need special preparation
Creating the Magic Ogre Potion
Required items:
- Empty/water-filled vial
- Guam leaf
- Pestle and mortar
- Jangerberries
- Bat bones
Gathering Materials
- Visit Yanille bank for ingredients
- If you need bat bones:
- Go east of Watchtower
- Find web-covered house
- Cut through webs
- Kill giant bat for bones
- Fill empty vial at Watchtower fountain
Making the Potion Follow this exact order:
- Add guam leaf to water vial
- Add jangerberries (careful - don't eat!)
- Grind bat bones with pestle and mortar
- Add ground bones to mixture
- Take to Watchtower wizard for enchantment
Final Assault on the Enclave
Required items:
- Magic ogre potion
- Anti-dragon shield
- Cave nightshade
- Pickaxe
- Combat gear
- Food supplies
Entering the Enclave Again
Look, the Yanille bank is right there, so gear up properly. Head back to that market in Gu'Tanoth - you know, where we stole that rock cake ages ago. This time we're using that nightshade on the cave guard. Here's the thing though - you MUST wait for the dialogue to finish or kiss that nightshade goodbye.
Inside the Enclave is where things get spicy. You've got blue dragons everywhere and some very angry shamans. The trick here is pretty simple though - run around like a madman with your potion, splashing it on every shaman you see. Don't worry about fighting them - the potion does all the work. Hit all six shamans and you'll get that cyan crystal automatically.
Pro tip: If you somehow lose that crystal (hey, it happens), there's a shaman robe in the southeast corner you can search for a backup.
Now for the last crystal - see that big rock in the middle? That's the Rock of Dalgroth. Here's the catch - you can only mine it AFTER dealing with all the shamans. Do it before leaving or you'll need to do this whole nightshade dance again. And please, actually mine it - don't just stand there prospecting!
Reviving the Watchtower
Time to put it all together. You need:
- All four crystals (yellow, grey, cyan, magenta)
Get yourself back to the Watchtower (Nightmare Zone telly works great here). Talk to our wizard friend who's probably been having kittens waiting for us. Now, this part's important - the crystals have to go in specific spots:
- Yellow goes southwest
- Grey goes southeast
- Cyan goes northwest
- Magenta goes northeast
One last thing - before you pull that lever on the west wall, make sure you haven't dropped anything. The game creates a new instance and anything on the ground is gone forever. Trust me, you don't want that headache.
And that's it! You've just restored the Watchtower and earned yourself a fancy new teleport spell, some nice magic XP, and the ability to waltz into ogre city whenever you feel like it. Not bad for a day's work, right?
