OSRS Smoke Devil Slayer Guide

Smoke devils are a mutated version of dust devils. They look pretty easy to kill, and they are really easy to kill! Smoke devils have 3 variants: normal, boss (Thermonuclear Smoke Devil), and superior (Nuclear Smoke Devil) variant. Depending on your goals, you can approach this task differently. All of these monsters drop decent Alchable drops, so you can expect to make a good profit per task. Also, they drop the fabled occult necklace, which is a big deal for Ironman. You can also expect to get a smoke battlestaff if you farm the boss variant of this monster! One disadvantage is its Slayer requirement, which is Level 93. Location

Smoke devils only exist in one location: the smoke devil dungeon. This dungeon is near Castle Wars, so it is easy to get to. Players usually use one of these two methods to reach the location:

• Use the fairy code B.K.P and run northeast to the cave.
• Use a ring of dueling and teleport to Castle Wars. Then run southwest.

Weakness

First, let's take a look at the weaknesses of the smoke devils.

Do not let the magic defence fool you; they have a magic level of 1, so they are extremely weak to magical attacks despite their +600 magic defence.

Now let's take a look at the boss variant, the Thermonuclear Smoke Devil.

Just like regular smoke devils, this boss has a magic level of 1, so it is a trick! They are extremely weak to magic damage.

Best Gear Setups

As mentioned before, the magical defence is a trick, so the best way to kill these monsters is actually by using Ancient Magicks.

Here is the best item setup for the regular variant of this creature:

• Helmet: Slayer Helmet (i)
• Neck: Occult Necklace
• Ammo: Holy blessing / Rada’s Blessing

• Weapon: Kodai wand/Master wand

With this setup, you will be using ice blitz to freeze the boss in place while attacking from a safe distance.

Melee Setups

Thermonuclear Smoke Devil can hit consistent damage. There are a few ways you can counteract this using melee.

Tank Setup

• Helmet: Slayer Helmet (i)
• Neck: Amulet of rancour / Amulet of Torture
• Ammo: Holy blessing / Rada’s Blessing
• Cape: Infernal cape/Fire cape
• Body: Masori body (f) / Karil’s Leathertop
• Legs: Masori chaps (f) / Karil’s Leatherskirt
• Weapon: Blade of Saeldor / Voidwaker / Abyssal tentacle or whip / Zombie axe
• Shield: Avernic defender / Dragon defender / Dragonfire shield
• Boots: Primordial boots / Dragon boots
• Gloves: Ferocious gloves / Barrows gloves
• Ring: Ring of suffering (i)
• Special attack weapon: Crystal halberd / Dragon claws / Burning claws

Inventory

• Rune pouch containing runes for high-level alchemy and house teleport runes
• 3-4 Prayer potions (if you are bringing food) or 18 prayer potions (if you are using redemption)
• Teleport to safety, like house tabs
• 1 Divine super combat potion (if you are using food) or 3-4 divine super combat potions (if you are using redemption)

Damage Setup (Using House Teleports)

• Cape: Infernal cape/Fire cape
• Body: Torva platebody / Bandos chestplate
• Legs: Torva platelegs / Bandos tassets
• Weapon: Blade of Saeldor / Voidwaker / Abyssal tentacle or whip / Zombie axe
• Shield: Avernic defender / Dragon defender / Dragonfire shield
• Boots: Primordial boots / Dragon boots
• Gloves: Ferocious gloves / Barrows gloves
• Ring: Ring of suffering (i)
• Special attack weapon: Crystal halberd / Dragon claws / Burning claws

• 4 Divine super combat potions
• 6 pieces of emergency food

How to Farm Smoke Devils

1. Use either of the methods mentioned above to get to the Smoke Devil Dungeon.
2. Place your cannon on the marked location (should be marked if you are using Runelite).
3. Mark the two yellow tiles shown below:

4. Turn on your protect from ranged and start up your cannon.
5. Run towards one of the marked yellow tiles.
6. Start auto-casting your ice barrage spell to kill them.
7. Once the stack is dead or the freeze duration ends, run towards the other marked tile and repeat.
8. This ensures that your stack always has a lot of smoke devils, maximizing your kills per hour.
9. Restock your cannon when needed and use stamina potions if your run energy is low. Enjoy farming!

How to Farm Thermonuclear Smoke Devil

Safespotting

To use this method, you will need to bring the magic setup as explained above.

1. Mark the following tiles shown in the image below:

2. Kill the existing boss in the cave by freezing and far casting.
3. Stay on the tile marked as 1. The Thermonuclear Smoke Devil will spawn in the unnumbered tile.
4. Once he spawns, turn on augury, cast ice blitz to freeze him, and move back to tile 2. This keeps you out of his attack range.
5. If he gets unfrozen, freeze him again and move back to tile 3. Repeat as necessary.
6. You may take some damage initially. To mitigate this and extend your trip, use redemption to heal when necessary. Prayer renewal potions make this easier.

Melee Kills

Tanking

This technique is simple: use the gear explained above and tank the devil until it dies. Walk under the devil when you need to eat for a safe spot.

1-1 Method

This method is better than tanking but is more click-intensive:

1. Turn on "Shift click Walk here" using the Menu Entry Swapper on Runelite for ease.
2. Use a 4-tick weapon, like an abyssal whip.
3. Turn on piety and start hitting the boss.
4. After each hit, immediately click and walk under the boss. Attack again after 3-4 ticks.
5. Repeat until the boss is dead.

Player-Owned House Method

This is the easiest melee method but requires you to run back to the cave for each kill.

1. Equip your best damage gear with your best slash weapon. Bring a special attack weapon, ideally a crystal halberd.
2. Use all your special attacks on the boss, then kill it.
3. Teleport to your house and use your ornate rejuvenation pool to restore stats and special attack energy.
4. Use your jewellery box or fairy ring to teleport back near the cave.
5. Repeat this process until your Slayer task is complete!
