Game Guides , Runescape
Many of your hours in OSRS will be spent on traveling from one place to another. If you're a busy person, that's certainly a bad way to play. However, there's a way to make traveling easier especially if you frequent some spots over others. With that, we'd like to introduce the portal nexus.
What Is The Portal Nexus?
If you're looking to enhance your player-owned house in OSRS, consider constructing a Portal Nexus room. You can have only one of these rooms in your house, and it opens up a world of teleportation possibilities. Achieving this upgrade requires a Construction level of 72 and an investment of 200,000 coins.
Within your Portal Nexus room, you can create a portal nexus that grants you access to various locations across Gielinor. The catch is that adding each teleport to the nexus comes at a cost – specifically, it's 1,000 times the rune cost of the corresponding spell.
To embark on this construction journey, you need to be at least level 67 in Construction. However, with a little help from an orange spicy stew (+5 boost), you can meet this requirement. Keep in mind that the +3 boost from the crystal saw only applies to furniture crafted with a saw and hammer, so plan accordingly. Alternatively, if you have a Construction level of 69 and consume a servant-made tea with a gilded cup for a +3 boost, you're good to go.
When setting up your Portal Nexus room, you'll encounter four hotspots:
- Amulet space
- Curtain space
- Rug space
- Portal Nexus space
Make strategic choices in designing your Portal Nexus room, and soon you'll enjoy the convenience of teleporting to various destinations effortlessly.
Where To Build The Portal Nexus
On this next part of the guide, we'll give you the basics on what you need to do to build the portal nexus on the four hotspots.
Amulet
As you set up your Portal Nexus room, take note of the amulet space – there are two distinct slots designated for mounting amulets. Each slot is intended for a specific amulet type, allowing you to mount one of each. In other words, you can mount one amulet in each of the two available slots. This arrangement ensures that you can diversify your teleportation options by having two different amulets readily accessible within your Portal Nexus room.
Construction Level | Item | Materials | Experience | Cost |
72 | Mounted xeric's talisman | Mahogany plank Gold leaf Xeric's talisman (inert) Lizardman fang x5,000 | 500 | 252,312 |
82 | Mounted digsite pendant | Mahogany plank Gold leaf Curator's medallion | 800 | 378,362 |
Curtains
In the case of torn curtains, a distinctive decoration, not typically found in the standard decoration hotspots, will take their place. If you have regular curtains, they will be replaced with oak decorations, adding a touch of elegance to the newly configured space. Opulent curtains, on the other hand, will be substituted with teak decorations, elevating the overall aesthetic of your room.
Construction Level | Curtains | Materials | Experience | Cost |
2 | Torn curtains | Plank x3 Bolt of cloth x3 Nails x3 | 132 | 3,858 - 13,797[a] |
18 | Curtains | Oak plank x3 Bolt of cloth x3 | 225 | 4,107 |
40 | Opulent curtains | Teak plank x3 Bolt of cloth x3 | 315 | 5,283 |

Adding A Teleport
Unlocking the full potential of the portal nexus in OSRS allows you to link up to thirty different locations, expanding your teleportation network. The number of available locations is determined by the tier of the portal nexus you've constructed. However, it's important to note that the materials required for each destination are calculated differently compared to other portal systems, requiring players to invest 1,000 times the materials rather than the usual 100 times.
Take note of the following:
- Directing a portal necessitates the same Magic level and quest requirements as casting the corresponding teleport spell.
- Players aren't restricted to the spellbook they are currently on; for example, directing a portal to Kharyrll is possible even on the standard spellbook.
- The use of elemental staves, combination runes, and runes stored in a rune pouch is not applicable.
- Temporary Magic level boosts from items like wizard mind bombs, magic potions, spicy stews, or an imbued heart cannot be utilized.
- The house owner is not required to be in building mode to add a destination.
- Upgrading the portal nexus preserves all destinations from its previous version, eliminating the need to provide runes or salt again.
- Removing a teleport doesn't refund the runes, necessitating the "payment" of the material cost once more.
