OSRS Leagues 5 Raging Echoes is continuing with its full force and most players now have to deal with the echo variants of different bosses for their unique drops. Starting from today we will cover each and every echo boss in the game so that everyone can defeat them with ease! We are going to start with the Echo King Black Dragon

Getting the echo orb for this boss is pretty simple. KBD can be killed pretty early on, especially with ranged if you are using a crossbow. If you are looking for an extensive guide on this old boss you can check out our OSRS KBD Guide. Here are the requirements for the echo version.

Ranged Requirements

  • Level 61+ Ranged
  • Rune crossbow with both ruby and diamond bolts (e)
  • Anti-fire shield
  • Level 37 Prayer for protect from magic or antifire potions
  • Antivenom or poison potions alternatively cure spells from the Lunar spellbook
  • Decent food and super restore potions

Melee Requirements

  • Level 70+ Attack
  • Level 80+ Strength
  • Level 43 Prayer
  • A tier 70 weapon such as the zombie axe or whip or something better
  • Anti-fire shield
  • Antivenom or poison potions alternatively cure spells from the Lunar spellbook
  • Antifire potions if possible
  • Decent food, super restore and stat boosting potions

Needless to say, this boss is easier to kill with Ranged but is not bad with Melee and as for Magic if you have decent magic gear with high level waterspells you should be fine.

Echo KBD Strategy

It is advisable to have a ring of dueling with you to teleport to Feroxs’ Enclave after each fight to restore stats and cure yourself of venom. If you have the total recall alongside the clue compass relic, you can set up your total recall near the bank at Ferox and teleport back to the boss using your compass.

Attacks

KBD will always use a breath attack to damage you. There are 5 different breath attacks that it will use:

  • Regular Fire: This attack will send a ball of fire towards your character. This works the same way as any other dragon breath attack, so if you have your antifire alongside a secondary fire protection like the magic prayer, you will be fine.
  • Fire Explosion: This attack looks just like the previous one but will actually not lock on you and instead hit the ground you were standing on when the attack was launched. It will deal damage in an X-shaped 3x3 radius. Simply move out of the way to dodge this attack. During the second phase, this attack’s radius is amplified.
  • Venom: This attack is a green breath attack that once again hits the ground where you were standing when the attack was launched. After hitting the ground, it will splatter venom all around the area randomly. You have to dodge this to avoid taking massive amounts of damage. The venom on the ground stays there for a really long time but is not permanent.
  • Lightning: A blue breath attack will indicate a lightning attack. This attack hits the ground where you were standing when the attack was launched and creates an electric area in a "+" shaped form. This attack must be dodged as it drains your stats alongside dealing consistent damage. During the second phase, this attack stays on the ground for a longer period of time.
  • Ice: A white-breath attack will indicate an ice attack. This attack will freeze you in place so you are more susceptible to the other attacks. You can simply move out of the way to avoid getting frozen.
  • Purple Attack: This attack will turn off your prayers, just like Vorkath. It is harmless if you have anti-fire potions but can be deadly if not.
  • Hits the ground: This is a general attack mechanic where any of the above breath attacks might hit the ground where you were standing when the attack was launched.

Full Kill

The strategy for killing Echo KBD is pretty simple. You have to just keep moving. There is no way to tell which attack the KBD will do and since most attacks are dodgeable, we will have to change positions in between each hit. Here is an example kill:

  1. Start the fight a little away from KBD even if you are a melee user as it can start with a venom attack. We don’t want to immediately lose access to the tiles near KBD.

  1. Hit KBD and move at least 2 tiles after each hit, never stand still in place. If you see a venom attack, move more tiles as the venom splats can still reach you. Avoid going back and forth between two tiles as it will cause you to eventually get hit, especially with the lightning attack.
  2. Once KBD is low enough, it will spawn 4 dragons. You must kill all of them before continuing the fight. If you don’t have access to anti-fire potions, you must be extremely careful. All 4 dragons will use breath attacks against you, and if you are relying on your protect from magic to avoid damage, you will be in trouble if the KBD uses its purple attack. If this is the case, make sure you have your quick prayers set up and turn them back on as soon as they are turned off. Be ready to eat food. If you have antifires and you are using melee, you can turn on protect from melee as they will hit you with melee when you get close to them.

  1. The 4 dragons can also take damage from KBD, and the lightning attack actually one-shots them.
  2. After they are dead, continue killing KBD until the fight is over.

Congratulations! You have just slain an Echo Boss! Enjoy your combat mastery and the overpowered Thunder Khopesh!
