OSRS Fighter Torso Guide

The Fighter Torso is one of the most popular chest pieces in OSRS but oddly enough, it's not even close to being the best in slot. Still, there's no denying that the Fighter Torso is worth getting for certain cases. In this guide, we're going to do a deep dive on this special chest piece.

What Is The Fighter Torso?

osrs_fighter_torso_guide_img1

This is a special armor that you can get in the Barbarian Assault Reward Shop. If you're having trouble with this minigame, we'll give you a quick guide to beating it so that you can get this chest piece as early as possible. You can get it for 375 honour points on all four roles. You'll also need to kill the Penance Queen at least once to get it.

The chest piece requires 40 Defence to equip so it's a good mid-level chest piece for many builds. You can get the Fighter Torso at any level of course but the Barbarian Assault minigame does require certain setups and a bit of power. As such, we highly recommend leveling up your combat skills first.

One of the reasons why the community loves it so much is that it's mainly used for melee training. The gear provides a decent strength bonus so it's great for maximizing your damage output. The bonus you get from this gear is tied with high-end gear such as the Bandos chestplate and the newly added Blood moon chestplate. This holds an advantage for mid-game players because it's much more accessible.

The Fighter Torso also has the highest negative magic accuracy out of all the chest pieces in the game. This makes it well-suited for splashing or magic training and not just melee training.

Fighter Torso vs. Other Gear

The Fighter Torso costs no money and you get it through the mini-game Barbarian Assault. The defense bonuses are about the same as a Rune Plate Body, which is decent. It gives a little bit better slash and a bit less stab and crush than the Rune Plate.

The big pro with this one is, of course, the melee strength bonus, plus four, which is why you see people use this a lot. Plus four is actually the best you can get in the plate body slot. The attack bonuses are none when it comes to melee, and mage and range are kind of irrelevant because you'll probably use some range or mage gear if you're going to do that. It gives no prayer bonus.

Now, let's check out the Bandos Chestplate. This is the chest piece that's most commonly compared with the Fighter Torso.

It's got some pretty good defense bonuses, but again, it's not the best and it's mainly used for the melee strength, plus four. It doesn't give any accuracy just like the Fighter Torso. It does, however, give one prayer bonus, which is a good thing but not a big deal really. So, in general, it is better, but it does cost around 18 mil at the moment, and the Fighter Torso is free. Both of these items are mainly used for the melee strength bonuses and not for the defense bonuses anyway.

So, if you can only afford one of the two Bandos items, you should go with the Fighter Torso and Bandos Tassets to get as much strength bonuses as possible. This will give you more than if you, for example, buy the Bandos Chestplate and Obsidian Legs.

So, this combination is the best and works for pretty much anything. After that, you can work on upgrading your other gear, and finally, when you have the money, you can switch from the Fighter Torso to the Bandos Chestplate. Your melee strength won't change, but you'll get some better defense bonuses.

Getting The Fighter Torso - Barbarian Assault Minigame

Barbarian Assault is a wave-based team activity that has you battle against increasingly difficult groups of monsters as 5 players sign up for different roles as a team.

osrs_fighter_torso_guide_img2

  • The defender is in charge of luring runners to the traps on either side of the arena by dropping food and repairing the traps whenever necessary.
  • The healer is in charge of healing teammates whenever they are low in HP, as well as using poisoned food on Penance Healers to slowly kill them through the wave.
  • The attacker is in charge of killing both fighters and rangers as fast as possible to stop them from attacking your teammates.
  • Finally, the collector is in charge of picking up eggs dropped by all of the monsters in each wave and then loading them to the hopper to aid the other roles if needed. Red eggs do damage, green eggs poison, and blue eggs stun your target. All players will get a horn to tell their teammates what to do, but more on this later.

The fastest, cheapest, and easiest way to get here is by buying a Games Necklace and teleporting to Barbarian Assault. If you're on the Lunar Spellbook, you can also teleport to the Barbarian Outpost, but this is slightly farther away.

osrs_fighter_torso_guide_img3

If this is your first time here, you will need to talk to the captain to either learn about the minigame yourself or by telling him you already know what to do, so you can enter the minigame right away.

Once inside, you will notice the floor is divided into several rooms, each with a differing number representing their respective wave. You will need to go to the first room to either recruit players by grabbing a scroll from the table and using it on them, or calling what role you want and be recruited by someone else.

General Tips

First, let's take a look at a few tips that will be beneficial to everyone regardless of what role you decide to take. Keep in mind that this is very general advice and again, these will be useful for general knowledge and not godlike speedrun mechanics.

1. Use Plugins: For the first one, if you guys are on RuneLite, activate the Barbarian Assault plugin to know when you have to call. What I mean by call is that each player will have a horn in their inventory and you will have to right-click it and choose the option next to the lips at the top right corner of your screen. This will tell your teammates what they need to do. This plugin will let you know the time left for you to do this so you can prepare in advance.

2. Mind The Timer:Speaking of calls, stop whatever you're doing when the timer drops to 3 seconds and prepare for your next call. You don't want to be stuck in the middle of something as your teammates are waiting for you to know what to do. It is slightly more efficient for you to list to the defender last; this way their position will be closest to the dispensers, which I will mention later on so the person doing this role can get the supplies faster and start luring the runners.

3. Role Distribution:You might notice that teams are made up of five people and that there are four different roles. What you should do with the fifth roll depends on your team and what wave they are on. We would recommend having two attackers from waves 1 through 7, and if your healer isn't level 5, having two healers in waves 8 through 10 might be helpful in order for you to get those heals going. Having multiple healers in later waves is also nice because normally it takes a really long time for all of the Penance Healers to die, so the more help the better. If you do have a level 5 healer, though, two attackers for all 10 waves is the way to go. we wouldn't recommend having a team with more than one collector and defender because it's pretty pointless, but if you can mix and match according to what your team needs, that's completely fine.

4. Dealing With Leavers:If you're playing with random people in World 306 and someone leaves, literally just exit the room, go to the first one, right-click on the barrier, reset your progress, and wait for a new team. Finding someone to replace your fallen teammate on the wave you are on is very tough, so stop coping, bite the bullet, and start from scratch.

5. Starting Strong: Once inside, make extra sure to call correctly; any incorrect action will cost you and your teammate points if you don't do the proper action. So please pay attention to this. It would be beneficial for everyone except for the attackers to have both other retaliation turned off and NPC attack options hidden. This is especially useful for the collector as you will be clicking around monsters to pick up your eggs. Whatever role you are, make sure to stay the hell away from the defender and especially the traps. If you walk past the traps, the runners or the general area where the defender is working, you may mess up the wave. This is especially useful for healers since your targets will run around the same area as the runner, so you kind of don't want to mess up the wave.

All right, so that's pretty much it about general tips and roles, and now let's go a little bit more in-depth for the key roles to show you that this minigame to help you get the Fighter Torso.

The Defender

The Defender starts with the defender role for two reasons. Number one, out of all of them, it is the most complicated one. But like we said before, it's not that hard once you get the hang of it.It just needs a little more knowledge than the rest of them.

And number two, it's so difficult to get all of the runners trapped. Now that you know what to do though, this is possibly the fastest role overall since you can kill all runners incredibly quickly.

Alright, so before you go in there, it is important to mention the Imcando hammer. This is an equippable hammer obtained after finding it in the ruins of Camdoza and paying 1,250 baronite shards to Romano to repair it for you.

osrs_fighter_torso_guide_img6

As a defender, you need a hammer throughout the waves and having one already on you will be pretty nice. If you don't have it though, it's not absolutely necessary to grind one for the minigame, but if it's already in your bank, definitely bring it with you.

Once inside, call for your healer and then click on your dispenser to obtain worms, crackers, and tofu. Run to a nearby tile and drop one bad food, then run to the tile directly north of the eastern trap and drop four good food. Go to another tile and drop another bad food and finally run to the northern one and drop four more good food. Then head west to grab a hammer if you don't already have one and grab the two logs that are on the floor.

Now, what we mean by good food are pieces of food that your healer has called, and you can see what they are in the top right corner of your screen. Whenever you drop them on the floor, runners will be attracted to them.

Bad food are pieces of food your healer hasn't called, and if the runners eat them, they will run away from it. Anyway, hurry back to the eastern trap and stand on top of the first batch of good food you dropped to stall all of the runners. Wait for the next call and tell your healer what to do.

When your healer has called, drop the rest of your good food where you're standing, and that is going to attract the rest of the runners. Once most of them are stacked up, make sure the trap has two charges. Walk on top of the trap for some of them to die, and when they are killed, repair the trap right away to kill even more in quick succession.

osrs_fighter_torso_guide_img7

If some runners get past the trap, the bad food south of you will make them walk north so they can come back to the good food you dropped next to the trap. In later waves, you will need to repair the trap multiple times, but if done correctly, just one or two batches of logs will be enough to repair the traps to get rid of all of the runners.

Once done, you should stand on a far tile as the pendant's healers will have aggro on you for killing their brothers, and this will help getting them stuck behind the wall. Keep correctly calling for your healer to take care of the pendant's healers until the end of the wave, and we are good to go until wave 10.

Now that's a very general idea of the defender role, but here's a list of tips to help you even further and master this role in no time.

  • If you are using RuneLite for that nice Barbarian Assault plugin, turn on the Ground Marker plugin too and mark the tiles for better navigation. You may also highlight the hammer and log spawns if needed. Shift-click on the tile and then click on Mark Tile first and then once marked, label it according to the row.
  • Once you grab your food, you will notice that they will be placed diagonally. When you're dropping four good food on the tiles, they need to be at just the fourth diagonal food so you don't really have to think about it.
  • Whenever you're dropping food, make sure to just click on it and this will automatically send it to the ground. Never, repeat and never shift-click on any piece of food as it will be destroyed instead and you will get no warning confirming this. It may sound intuitive to drop it with shift-click but do not do this at Barbarian Assault.
osrs_fighter_torso_guide_img8

  • On the topic of dropping food, if your healer calls correctly and you drop correct food on the ground, it will always stay correct as long as they stay on the ground. Even if the call has changed, the same goes for bad food. Once placed, they will always stay like that. This is important for whenever you drop an entire batch of food for the second call. If you're standing on the second batch of good food north of the trap, waiting for the runners, wait five seconds to see if more are coming from the tunnel. If you don't see any more coming your way, that means there may be enough runners standing next to you already, which the maximum number is five. So step on the trap and repair it for the multi-kill and then step back on the food to wait for more to do the same thing and to kill them quickly.
  • And last but definitely not least, when all of the runners are stacked next to you, the trap will need to be fully charged in order to perform a multi-kill. If it only has one charge left, it will kill one runner and the rest will just walk away unharmed. So always remember to use your logs on the traps before stepping away from it in order to get many kills at once.

The Healer

The Healer has arguably the most intricate role in the game, it's time to lower the difficulty and move on to the healer role. This one also needs items provided to you by the dispenser, so as soon as you spawn, call for your defender and click on the green statue and then run north. You will be dealing with tall dudes with huge mouths and all you need to do is use the correct poison food on them to well, poison them and let them die out slowly.

The trick for this role is to poison all of the new monsters once and then focus the last one to kill it quicker. If more keep coming out, just keep using the correct type of food on them to eventually clear the arena of Penance healers. In later waves, more of them will spawn at higher health and it may be a little overwhelming to deal with them. So you can do one of two things. You can ask your teammates to spam eggs and help you out or you can add an additional healer to your team starting at around wave eight. This will be useful not only to deal with Penance healers faster but also to heal teammates if nobody is level five yet for that maximum healing.

Also starting at around wave eight and especially during the final one, it may be a good idea to fill your vial at the healing pool near the ladder and help your team whenever they get too low in HP. If you're the one who's about to die, you can right click your horn, call for a medic or you can just run up to them and flame them in the chat until they heal you up.

Three extra tips for healers is that during the waves, you may run out of supplies at one point. So wait for a new call and make your way back to the dispensers to quickly continue working on the Penance healers.

osrs_fighter_torso_guide_img9

Also, you can click on the last food in your inventory, being the one at the bottom, and use them on the healers since food will be used from top to bottom. And finally, when you poison a healer, the first hit splat will be four, but eventually it will go down to three, two, one, and finally zero. If you see the damage going down, poison that healer again and you're good to go.

The Attacker

Things are about to get a lot easier as we jump into the attacker role. Before you get in there, we are going to set up for our gear to deal a ton of damage. Contrary to what a lot of people do in World 306, melee is a little bit out-damaged by ranged and it's better to use arrows against the monsters. In order of importance for your weapons, you can take a Third Age bow, a magic comp bow, a magic short bow, an imbued magic short bow, or any other type of short bow if your ranged is slower. However, we wouldn't really recommend doing this if you don't have at least level 50 for those magic bows.

osrs_fighter_torso_guide_img10

Elite Void is best in slot here as accuracy along with the bow and arrows is crazy good. If you don't have Elite Void, the normal version will do just fine. And other than that, things like Armadyl, Karil's, Dragonhide, or even normal Dragonhide will do just fine. Along with this, you are going to take a few Divine Ranging potions. But if you don't want to spend a lot of money, bring normal Ranging potions. It's also perfectly fine. And also, they are extremely cheap nowadays.

Once inside, call for your collector and click on the red dispenser to get your arrows. Depending on what the collector calls, you will see one of the following types of arrows: bullet, field, blunt, or barbed arrows. If you want to memorize each one by its name, go right ahead. But our first tip for this role is that the arrows are also color-coded. And if the collector calls Air spells, you can just click on the arrows with white feathers, which are named bullet. Same thing for water spells for the blue arrows, earth spells for the green arrows, and finally fire spells for the red arrows. This is a lot better to memorize and save brain power.
