Long Walkthrough

Museum Heist

Museum heist walkthrough

Here's where things get interesting. Make your way to the Grand Museum in Civitas illa Fortis and head to that empty display case in the northeast corner. Inspect the display case. Curator Herminius isn't too happy with how the investigation's going—typical bureaucracy, am I right? He'll ask for your help in checking things out like all quests.

First things first—take a look at those tools behind the display case. These aren't your average thief's toolkit—we're dealing with a professional here. When you inspect the display case again, you'll notice some expert tampering work. Time to do some old-fashioned detective work.

Start chatting up the locals—tourists, academics, and anyone hanging around the museum floor. Someone's bound to have seen something suspicious. The witness changes for each player, but keep asking around until someone mentions a shady character who headed right after leaving through the main entrance.

Following the Trail

Head over to Regulus Cento at the landing site and ask about any suspicious characters. He'll tell you about someone carrying a case who was oddly interested in his quetzal. When Regulus wouldn't let them near the bird, our mystery person headed east to the Fortis Cothon.

Make sure you have one free inventory space before the next part.

Find any Trader Crewmember at the Cothon and bring up the suspicious man. In true OSRS fashion, they'll want a favor before spilling the beans. They'll hand you some tattered sails that need fixing - looks like we're running errands.

The repair shop you need is just south of the Cothon. Talk to Artima and mention you need help. She'll fix those sails right up, but of course, she wants a favor too - to thank the crew for her latest shipment. Classic fetch quest chain, right?

Theft Across the Sea

Take those repaired sails back to any trader crewmember. They'll tell you about a "grey-haired fella" who needed some sailing lessons before chartering to Port Sarim. Now we're getting somewhere!

Make your way to Port Sarim however you like:

  • Charter ship (costs 3,000 coins)
  • Rat Pits grouping teleport (if unlocked)
  • Spirit tree (if planted)

Once you've hit Port Sarim, head to the southernmost dock. The crew there will point you north - apparently our mystery man was hunting for runes.

Uncovering the Truth

Betty's Magic Emporium Investigation

Betty's Magic Emporium in northwest Port Sarim is your next stop. Betty remembers our suspect - a monocled man who seemed pretty clueless about what runes he needed. She'll hand you some notes she took while trying to figure out what he wanted.

Those notes? They're describing Varrock Teleport runes. And a grey-haired man with a monocle who needs teleport runes? If you're thinking Curator Haig Halen from Varrock Museum, you're right on the money.

The Confrontation

Confronting Haig Halen

Head to Varrock Museum and confront Haig Halen about Xerna's Diadem. He'll get nervous real quick. Time for some good old-fashioned pickpocketing - snag that storeroom key from him.

The storeroom's right under the stairs to the second floor. Inside, check out that lone unstacked crate in the middle. Surprise, surprise - there's Xerna's Diadem, along with quite a few other items that probably shouldn't be there.

Time for the grand finale. Go back to Haig Halen and start the interrogation. You'll see a "Shame-o-meter" appear - your job is to make him crack. The exact options vary per player, but calling him out as a thief or criticizing his "collection methods" usually does the trick.

Once he hits peak shame, Haig spills everything. Turns out he saw someone steal the diadem and decided to play hero... sort of. After "subduing" the thief, he brought the artifact back to Varrock for "safekeeping." Right.

Wrap it up by offering to keep quiet about the details if he returns the diadem. Head back to Civitas illa Fortis and tell Curator Herminius the good news.
