Treasure Trails is an activity in OSRS that involves you solving puzzles around clue scrolls. Completing the clue scroll will give you a reward casket which contains a variety of items. On this guide, we’re going to teach you how to get clue scrolls, and how you can beat the puzzles related to them.

Anagram
The answer to any anagram puzzle is the name of an NPC located somewhere in OSRS. In Beginner anagrams, you simply have to talk to an NPC to finish the puzzle. In higher difficulties, the NPC will give you a light box, challenge scroll or puzzle box to solve.

You can get challenge scrolls from completing anagrams. To do this, you simply have to talk to the NPC that serves as the solution to the anagram, and they’ll then give you a question to answer. Answer correctly and the challenge is done.

Ciphers
This is one of the more complex puzzles in Treasure Trails and there's not a lot that the game tells you on how to do it. To encrypt the name of an NPC, they utilize a Caesar shift.
A Caesar shift is a relocation inside the regular alphabet. For instance, shifting ABC once to the right or forward will result in BCD.
Here's a method to solve a more challenging shift (26 combinations): initially, you need to tally how many times a letter appears in the cipher. The clue "BMJ UIF LFCBC TFMMFS" will be utilized in this instance. List the letters and the number of times they occur:
- B = 2
- M = 3
- J = 1
- U = 1
- I = 1
- F = 4
- L = 1
- C = 2
- T = 1
- S = 1
As you can see, the most often occurring letter in the cipher is "F". As the most frequently occurring letter in the English language is "E", we always assume that "E" will be our starting letter since it is the most frequently occurring letter int he cipher. It's a good place to start, but it might not turn out to be the case. As "F" is the most frequently used letter in the cipher, you may assume that "F" equals "E". You then write the full alphabet in the proper order after making this assumption.

Next, put "F" under the letter "E" since we believe that the cipher's "F" is equivalent to the alphabet's "E". Then, continue filling out the alphabet, beginning with "F" and looping back to the beginning until you reach "Z," to give all the letters that look like this:

With the ciphered letters on the bottom row and the matching alphabet letter on top, you now have a sort of table. Thus, for example, if the letter "Z" appeared in the cipher, you might search for it in the bottom row, glance up, and discover that Z = Y. With this table, you can now verify whether or not your assumption that "E" was actually "F" in the cipher. Recall that in order to decipher, you must first read the letter that represents the ciphered message at the top before determining its ture meaning from the bottom letter. It would be the other way around if you were deciphering a message. In our case, our "BMJ UIF LFCBC TFMMFS" clue becomes "ALI THE KEBAB SELLER" when the above table is used.
Since "F" is the most common letter in the cipher and "E" is the most common letter on English, the assumption that "E" is equal to "F" in this example was correct and "E" became the key to the cipher. It may not be that simple for others, though. As an illustration, the letter "E" in the clue "ZCZL" is not the key because it yields the answer "EHEQ". Even if it might be twice encrypted, you should look at other possible keys first. Since every word in the English language has at least one of the vowel letters "A, E, I, O, U, and Y," using them is the nest best option if "E" is not the key. "Adam" is the right answer if you attempt to decipher the message using &ld"A" as the key. If this wasn't the case, though, you should go through each vowel one by one. Go over the remaining letters one at a time until you figure out the answer if none of these are the key.

Coordinates
You can picture this puzzle as a similar concept to real-life coordinates. You'll be given a set of numbers which you can then use to plot out the location of the exact solution somewhere on the map.
To easily beat this, you can use a chart, sextant and watch to determine your exact coordinates on a map. Once you reach the location of the coordinates, you'll need a spade to get the clue and finish this puzzle.
Cryptic Clues
These are simply riddles that ask you to do a variety of tasks in the game. Some have you speaking to an NPC only, and there are some that task you with going to an exact location in the world. On higher difficulties, you have to do other things to solve the puzzle.

This is a simple form of the coordinates puzzle. Here, a strange device will tell you whether or not your close to an intended location to dig. Hot means you're close, and cold means you’re far.
To find your location, you simply need to click on the strange device that gives the clue.

Light Boxes
The goal of a light box is to have you to turn all of the lights in a puzzle box. The light box itself contains a 5x5 grid and 8 switches that you use to control the lights.
The best strategy for this is to focus on one light at a time and then flip every switch. This will help you determine which of the switches affect which specific light.

In maps, you're given a scroll of a specific area. You'll need to reach the spot that's marked X on the map. Once there, you'll need to use a spade on the spot to dig for the solution.

Dig in one of the destroyed buildings in West Ardougne. It is located in the northeast corner of the housing buildings in West Ardougne's southwest area. From the main gate, head directly west to the buildings. |
Puzzle Boxes
Puzzle boxes contain scrambled images that you'll need to rearrange. Once you complete the puzzle and fix the image, you'll have to speak to the NPC that gave you the box. They'll either hand you a reward or the next step in your Treasure Trails journey.
