List of Diablo 2 Resurrected Runes

List of all Runes for Diablo 2 Resurrected and where to farm them

Introduction to runes

Runes are a type of item that provide specific magic attributes to items that they get socketed in. They work similarly to Jewels and Gems, and take up one slot in your inventory/chest just like them. There are 33 of them, their item color is orange, and can only be placed in socketed items. Higher tier runes are amongst the most valuable items in the game, and runes in general serve as currency for in-game trading. You can Buy every kind of Rune in our D2R Store.

How to farm runes

Drop mechanics of runes:

Rune drops are similar to item drops. When you kill a monster or open a stash, there is a specific chance of it dropping a type of item/rune. If the drop turns out to be a rune, the table below contains the generic chances of which rune will “roll” and be dropped. The tier of the rune is also determined by the area level, the monster’s level that you killed, or if the chest is a regular one or a super chest. From normal monsters, you will only be able to get a Zod rune if you are in Hell Act5, or at specific areas where monster levels exceed the requirements for a Zod rune to be dropped. Elite, champion, unique, superunique and Boss monsters are higher levels than regular ones. As an example, you can only find runes up to Vex if you kill normal monsters in Hell Act1, but Andariel can drop up to Lo rune.

Where to farm runes:

The Countess: The Countess is a Superunique monster in Act 1 at The Forgotten Tower level 5. She has the highest chance of dropping runes amongst any monsters in the whole game. If you aim to acquire runes, she is the one to farm. On Normal Difficulty she can drop runes up to Ral, on Nightmare Difficulty up to Ko, and on Hell Difficulty up to Lo. In order to find higher runes, you should farm higher monster level areas.

Completing the Hell’s Forge quest: This quest is the second one in Act 4. When completing the quest, the hellforge is guaranteed to drop a rune. In Hell difficulty, the lowest possible rune from this drop is Hel, while the highest is Gul.

Andariel: Andariel has the highest chance of dropping Vex, Ohm and Lo runes. If your aim is to find one of these, farm her.

Act difficulties and runes that can be found from normal monsters:

  • Act 1 Normal: No Runes from normal monsters
  • Act 2 Normal: El/Eld/Tir/Nef
  • Act 3 Normal: Eth/Ith/Tal/Ral
  • Act 4 Normal: Ort/Thul/Amn/Sol
  • Act 5 Normal: Shael/Dol
  • Act 1 Nightmare: Hel/Io
  • Act 2 Nightmare: Lum/Ko
  • Act 3 Nightmare: Fal/Lem
  • Act 4 Nightmare: Pul/Um
  • Act 5 Nightmare: Mal/Ist
  • Act 1 Hell: Gul/Vex
  • Act 2 Hell: Ohm/Lo
  • Act 3 Hell: Sur/Ber
  • Act 4 Hell: Jah/Cham
  • Act 5 Hell: Zod

Runewords

By socketing runes in specific orders to specific types of grey coloured socketed normal or ethereal items (non-magic/rare/unique), you can create Runewords, many of which are the most powerful and highest valued items in the game. Make sure that your item has the exact number of sockets required for the Runeword.

Upgrading runes

Runes can be upgraded to the next higher tier rune by using the Horadric cube. The cube recipes for rune upgrades are listed below in the List of Runes table.

Noteworthy runes to be socketed

  • Nef rune socketed in weapons knocks back enemies, which can help your survivability, especially if you play a bowazon build.
  • Amn rune socketed in weapons provides 7% life stolen per hit, which can drastically improve your life regeneration if you play a melee character.
  • Hel Rune lowers level requirements by 20% in weapons and by 15% in armor pieces. Using the Hel+Town Portal Scroll horadric cube recipe will remove all socketed runes/gems/jewels from any items. The removed items will cease to exist after removal.
  • Um Rune provides +15 all resistance in Helms/Armor and +22 all resistance in shields. It can greatly boost your survivability.
  • Mal rune socketed in weapons prevents monsters from healing, which can be very effective if you fight against Uber Bosses.
  • Ist rune provides the highest amount of +% chance to find magic items amongst any socketable items. If your goal is farming and magic find, socket your items with Ists.
  • Ber rune in armor pieces gives you 8% physical damage reduction, which also greatly helps your survivability.
  • Cham rune in any armor piece will provide the Cannot be frozen attribute, which can be very useful against monsters that freeze you.
  • Zod rune makes any item indestructible, including ethereal items.
