Diablo 4 , Game Guides
Diablo 4 Season 6 has brought in lots of amazing new features and one of those are the Realmwalkers. The Diablo 4 Realmwalker is a seasonal feature which means it won’t be there after Season 6 ends. That said, you might want to go ahead and get the most out of them.
Before we talk about the Realmwalker, you might want to check out RPGStash's D4 store first. We’ve got all sorts of items including D4 Runes, unique gear, and many other D4 services. We’ll make the Vessel of Hatred easier to finish.
Now, let’s talk about the Realmwalker with a brief introduction first.
With the release of the new expansion, Season 6's Vessel of Hatred, we now have a new seasonal mechanic: the Realmwalker and the Seething Realm dungeon.
What Is Diablo 4 Realmwalker
While you’re out exploring, check your map. You’ll see an icon resembling a green devil’s head, which indicates a Field of Hatred location. If the timer has only five minutes left, it’s likely the Realmwalker has already been defeated.
But if you spot a symbol with little horns and a circle in the center, it means the Realmwalker hasn’t spawned yet, and the area is still building up for its arrival.
Summoning the Realmwalker
Head to the area marked on your map, where you’ll find a portal. Any player can click on this portal to speed up the summoning of the Realmwalker.
You can also expedite the process by defeating enemies spawned from the portal. Once the timer ticks down or enough enemies are defeated, the Realmwalker will burst out of the ground.
When the Realmwalker appears, get ready to chase it across the field while fighting off its allies. It will spawn elite enemies that tether to it—almost like they're walking a demon pet! Take down these elites to push damage onto the Realmwalker, which may enter an immunity phase where it spawns "Fountains of Hatred." Destroy these fountains to make the Realmwalker vulnerable again and deal direct damage.
If you’ve already taken down a chunk of its health, you’ll only need to finish off the remaining portion. If not, be prepared for a full fight.
Luckily, other players can join in, making it easier, especially in a group. If you're solo, do your best and don’t be discouraged if you’re not strong enough yet—try again next time.
Once the Realmwalker is defeated, it will release a portal on its back leading to the Seething Realm. Enter this portal to explore an area similar to the dungeons you’ve encountered so far. Fight through enemies until you reach a second portal.
Choosing Your Reward
This portal will present you with a choice of rewards: Gold, Equipment, Materials, or Socketables. Each option has a cost, with Gold being the cheapest. Equipment and Materials require Murmuring Orbs, while Socketables require Angelic Whispers.
Socketables are more valuable later in the game as they provide gem fragments and runes, so choose based on what’s most useful for your current progress.
Clearing the Seething Realm
In the Seething Realm, you’ll encounter additional portals. These may lead to:
- Events requiring you to clear mobs or defend an objective,
- Encounters with elite enemies, or
- A battle with a tough mini-boss like the Butcher.
Clearing these encounters grants extra rewards, so tackle them whenever possible.
Final Encounter: Sentinel Guardians
At the end of the Seething Realm, you’ll find a boss room with a chest in the center. Opening this chest triggers an event that spawns waves of enemies.
Clear out the enemies until Sentinel Guardians appear—elite foes with significant enhancements. Defeat three or four of these to complete the run. Once victorious, you’ll find two chests filled with Opals, gear, and other valuable loot.
Using Opals and Seasonal Rewards
The Opals you gather can be used at the new vendor or in seasonal quests. Each Opal offers a 30-minute boost to increase your chance of finding specific items like Diablo 4 Gold, Equipment, Herbs, Minerals, Gem Fragments, or Runes.
Gem fragments drop more frequently than runes, which are still rare, but the Opals help boost those drop rates.
Here’s a quick look at the drop table:
Realm Type | Cost | Reward | Effect |
Torment Challenge | 300 Sigil Powder | Seething Opal of Torment | Enemies drop boss summoning materials and Infernal Compasses. |
Gold | 1 Iron Chunk | Seething Opal of Gold | Enemies drop significantly increased amounts of Gold. |
Equipment | 25 Murmuring Obols | Seething Opal of Equipment | Enemies have a chance to drop additional equipment. |
Materials | 5 Murmuring Obols | Seething Opal of Materials | Enemies have a chance to drop crafting materials and herbs. |
Diablo 4 Realmwalker Farming Guide
First up, let’s dive into Realm Walkers and Opals, two critical elements in Diablo 4’s latest season. They’re intertwined, so understanding one will help you master the other.
Realm Walkers and Hatred Rising Events
To track down Realm Walkers, you’ll spot a new event marker on your map labeled “Hatred Rising.” These events pop up every 15 minutes in the original regions and once per hour in the new Nunu region.
Each event lasts for 10 minutes, functioning a bit like Legion Events, with set start and end times.
When you reach a Hatred Rising event, you'll have the 10-minute window to complete it, which involves tracking down and defeating the Realm Walker.
Once defeated, the Realm Walker opens a portal to the Seething Realm, where major rewards—including the coveted new Opals—await.
The Realm Walker itself is a huge, moving structure with a portal on its back. But don’t get too excited yet—initially, you can't damage it. To activate the portal, you’ll need to engage it in battle.
How to Battle the Realm Walker
Chasing a Realm Walker means keeping pace as it moves and spawns enemies around it. Here’s the breakdown:
- Basic Enemies: Kill these as they appear around the Walker.
- Elites (Bloodbound Guardians): After clearing enough basic enemies, three Bloodbound Guardian Elites will spawn, staying close to the Walker as they teleport along with it.
- Hatred Spires: Once the Elites are down, the Walker will start spawning three Hatred Spires. Destroying these exposes the Walker, finally making it vulnerable.
Once you finish off the Walker, it drops a portal and rewards you with a heap of XP and reputation.
Entering the Seething Realm and Torment Challenges
Entering the portal takes you to a dungeon with a “realm gate” that lets you choose a torment challenge to earn Opals. Each Opal offers a 30-minute buff that boosts XP by 15% and increases reputation gains—ideal for leveling and Paragon progress.
Here’s the breakdown of Opal types:
- Opal of Torment: Costs 200 Sigil Powder and increases chances of finding boss summoning items and Infernal Compasses—especially valuable for farming unique items.
- Opal of Gold: Costs just one Iron Chunk but mainly boosts gold drops, making it the least valuable option unless you’re strapped for gold.
- Opal of Equipment: Costs 25 Murmuring Obols, granting increased equipment drops. Great early on for farming specific gear aspects.
- Opal of Materials: Costs only five Murmuring Obols and boosts herb and material drops. Perfect for players upgrading their gear frequently.
- Opal of Socketables: Requires three Angel Breath and enhances drop rates for gem fragments and runes—a top pick early in the season.
Dungeon Progression and Seething Ruptures
Upon choosing your Opal type, you progress through the dungeon, battling enemies and possibly encountering special portals called Seething Ruptures.
These lead to encounters with high-reward enemies like the Butcher, who drops high-value items like legendary aspects, crafting materials, and even uniques.
At the end of the Seething Realm dungeon, you’ll face a final encounter with basic enemies and Sentinel Guardians. Once defeated, you can open two chests: one for general realm rewards and another specific to your chosen Opal type.
These are excellent for obtaining crafting materials, legendary gear, and high-level runes.
Seasonal Reputation System and Rewards
With each Hatred Rising event and Realm Walker defeated, you’ll earn reputation points with the new seasonal faction, the Zakarum Remnants. Like past seasons, this rep system encourages general gameplay—kill enemies, complete dungeons, and participate in events.
Reputation levels reward you with materials, legendaries, consumables, Opals, and uniques, with a cap at level 12. You can increase your rep gains by activating Opal buffs and using the new seasonal blessing buff.
Prioritizing XP and rep increase buffs will maximize gains, especially early in the season.
Citadel and Undercity: New Core Endgame Content
On top of the seasonal changes, Diablo 4 introduces two new endgame modes:
- Undercity: A reworked version of the Gauntlet, allowing targeted farming with timed challenges and time-management mechanics.
- Citadel: A massive weekly dungeon split into three wings, designed for two or more players, with exclusive rewards and a weekly cache.
Both offer significant endgame rewards, adding more variety and excitement beyond the usual world bosses.
Alternate Farming Method
Activating the Realmwalker Portal and Farming Extra XP
First, you can left-click the portal every few seconds to spawn additional mobs. It’s a great way to farm some extra XP and loot while you’re waiting. The portal has an internal cooldown of around 20-30 seconds, so take advantage of it while it’s up.
Engaging the Indestructible Realmwalker
Once the Realmwalker spawns, you’ll notice it’s indestructible at first. Your objective is to “Slay the Realmwalker’s minions to anger it” and “Slay Bloodbound Guardians to damage the Realmwalker.” Stay close, but not too close—it can land some heavy hits if you’re in its immediate range.
If you’ve played Diablo 3, you’ll probably recognize this monster; it was a bounty mission there. They’ve upgraded its look in Diablo 4 to make it a lot cooler.
Filling the Anger Bar and Summoning Bloodbound Guardians
As you defeat minions around the Realmwalker, you’ll see the anger bar begin to fill. Once it’s full, the Realmwalker will spawn Bloodbound Guardians.
When you take these out, it damages the Realmwalker directly. It’s an efficient way to weaken it before the main boss fight begins. This process also grants a nice chunk of XP, so keep those attacks coming.
Moving Toward the Boss Fight Stage
Follow the Realmwalker as it moves toward its destination. Along the way, keep slaying mobs to fill up the anger bar. With each cycle of Bloodbound Guardians you kill, you’ll deal additional damage to the Realmwalker, which makes the upcoming boss fight easier and quicker.
Currently, we’re running this on Torment II; however, attempting it on Torment IV is a bit more challenging. The Realmwalker has several special attacks, including summoning earth spikes. Be ready to dodge!
Final Showdown: The Boss Fight
When the Realmwalker settles, you’ll see “Hatred Spires” pop up, which it uses in battle. The Realmwalker has some intense AoE attacks, so stay vigilant, especially when it casts its big Stone AoE.
When you finally bring it down, a portal will open up, granting access to a special chest and other loot rewards.
Exploring the Special Dungeon Zone
Inside this special dungeon zone, loot all the chests you can find—they hold some worthwhile gear! The new “jungle” dungeon designs look fantastic.
There’s no need to kill every monster here, but since they often drop decent loot, it’s well worth it. Keep an eye out for additional chests scattered around, as they can be hard to spot.
Seasonal Buffs and Special Drops
As you explore the dungeon, you’ll encounter shrines and random portals leading to mini-dungeons. These mini-dungeons are a nice bonus and offer more loot and chests. Be thorough, because even basic mobs here have increased drop rates, and you’ll find several radiant chests along the way, filled with rewards.
Choosing Your Rewards and Consumable Buffs
When you reach the portal realm gate, you’ll have four options for consumable rewards, each providing a unique buff:
- Sigil Power: Grants seething opals, which can yield boss summoning items, infernal compasses, and other valuable resources.
- Gold Boost: Increases gold drops from monsters, ideal if you’re low on gold.
- Equipment Drop Buff: Increases loot drops from monsters, great for farming gear.
- Crafting Materials: Enhances drops of herbs and other crafting materials.
Choose the reward that fits your current needs, but remember to save some opals for important purchases down the line.
Facing the Dungeon Boss for the Final Reward
After choosing your buff, prepare for the final boss fight. The difficulty of the encounter scales with the torment level you’re on, with higher levels providing better rewards. Be ready with your best build and summons to take on this powerful foe.
Once you beat the boss, the “Seething Realm Chest” awaits, with materials, equipment, and possibly legendary items. Look out for the gold chests throughout the dungeon too; they add a nice bonus to your haul.
Wrapping Up the Realmwalker Event
This new seasonal dungeon is packed with loot, materials, and equipment to help you progress. The realm of Hatred has something for everyone—whether it’s gear, materials, or a quick XP boost.
Take advantage of the Realmwalker event to boost your character’s power in Diablo 4’s Season 6!
