Diablo 4 , Game Guides
Finishing the campaign in Diablo 4 is just the start. If you want to experience the true endgame experience, then you’ll need to fight the Diablo 4 Season 6 bosses too. There’s a lot to cover in this regard but we’ll give you an overview of each boss and how to beat them.
Of course, we’ll also tell you what rewards you can get from each boss. Speaking of which, getting some of the Mythical Uniques might not be easy. If you need help, check out RPG Stash’s D4 item store. We have D4 gold, resources, and more!
Pinnacle Boss: Echo of Lilith
The Echo of Lilith is a tougher version of the last boss in Diablo 4. It has better rewards but of course, you’ll have to work hard to beat her. She’s currently the toughest boss in the game right now and you can only fight her once you reach World Tier 4.
To fight her, you’ll need to go to the Echo of Hatred Capstone Dungeon in Nevesk, Fractured Peaks. As for the fight…
If you've got a well-geared character, any class in the A or S tier on Maxroll should get you through this fight with ease. Think Fireball Sorcerer, Chain Lightning Sorcerer, Lightning Spear Sorcerer, Andariel Rogue, Barrage Rogue, Rapid Fire Rogue, Landslide Druid, or Bash Barb. So, let’s break it down into Phase One and Phase Two.
Phase One
In Phase One, you’ll want to attack Lilith as much as you can. When she jumps, keep attacking, and when she lands, keep at it. Then she’ll spawn some ads and jump again—this happens repeatedly. The pattern is simple:
Attack → She jumps → Attack again → Ads spawn → Attack more
When she jumps, do something different. Move to any edge of the circle (we prefer the bottom for visibility). When you see waves spawn, use either your movement skill or evade to get to the other side. Then, step left or right if any additional waves come.
Lilith also has another pattern: she may come back down, but instead of waves, she’ll create a big circle in the middle and spawn three waves that move tangentially. When this happens, just walk around the edge to dodge everything easily. With enough damage, you should end this phase quickly.
Phase Two
In Phase Two, Lilith will spawn in the center. Go all out on her while she performs a few specific moves:
She’ll go to the top and break off part of the map.
Then, she’ll break off a second part.
Finally, she’ll break off the last part, leaving you to finish in the middle.
We know she’ll start by breaking off the top part, so position yourself at the edge. When she starts firing bolts, walk around the edge to dodge them. If you’re in trouble, use evade, teleport, dash, flame shield, or blood mist—whatever your character has. When she moves to the second part, avoid standing right on it. Step outside first, then go around the edge as before.
Tips for Success
Teleport and Evade: If you don’t have a teleport, use evade and walk away from attacks. Get distance whenever fireballs come your way.
Use Your Abilities: Whether it's flame shield, blood mist, or dash, make the most of your class skills.
Practice Makes Perfect: On softcore, there’s no penalty for dying, so take a few tries to get comfortable with the fight.
With this strategy, you should be able to take Lilith down with confidence! Give it a few attempts, and enjoy your Resplendent Sparks each season.
Tormented Bosses
You’re going to be fighting the Tormented Bosses most of the time, especially if you’re looking for Mythical Uniques. Before we dive into the bosses, we’ll talk about how you can summon them first.
Varshan Boss Guide
Let’s kick it off with Varshan.
To find Varshan, head to the Malignant Burrow at the Tree of Whispers. The Tree of Whispers is located north of Howar and southeast of Kashan.
Upon entering, you’ll see an altar where you’ll deposit your materials. To summon Varshan, you’ll need:
- 1 Gurgling Head
- 1 Blackened Femur
- 1 Trembling Hand
- 1 Malignant Heart
You can get these items from Whisper Caches, or they may randomly drop from Elites, local events, treasure goblins, Hellborn, blood maidens, grotesque deaders, or by refining items at the Alchemist.
If you're short on specific materials, like the Gurgling Head, you can convert other items into what you need at the Alchemist.
For the tormented version, you’ll need three times the materials:
- 3 Gurgling Heads
- 3 Blackened Femurs
- 3 Trembling Hands
- 3 Malignant Hearts
- Plus, you’ll need 2 Stig Stones, which are found in World Tier 4 in the Pit or dropped by World Bosses.
Varshan can drop a special item: Mucus-Slick Eggs. You’ll need two of these to summon Duriel. Varshan always drops at least one egg when you summon him, with a chance to drop two.
Varshan starts with some melee attacks, lashing out with tentacle-like intestines. Some of these attacks have projectiles, while others don’t.
Unless you’re under-geared, these moves aren’t too deadly—try to dodge them, use a potion when necessary, but don’t worry too much if you get hit. The real threats come from his other abilities.
Varshan summons malignant minions and tries to absorb their power. Once you're properly geared, this is easy to handle by quickly defeating the minions. However, if you’re under-geared, prioritize taking these minions down. If Varshan completes his channel, he gains dangerous buffs, including:
- Daze on hit: Inflicts Daze each time he strikes.
- Damage over time: Causes a potent, quick health-draining effect.
- Resource drain on hit: Can disrupt your build by draining resources.
- Barrier buff: Grants him a high-durability barrier, adding difficulty if you’re already low on damage.
This is Varshan's most complicated and deadly move. During the Putrid Dance, he corrupts the floor in various patterns that deal heavy damage, especially in Torment 4.
Each hit permanently increases your incoming damage for the rest of the fight, so each time you’re stuck, the encounter becomes progressively harder.
Consider a Mercenary: If you want extra leeway, hire Mercenary Raheir, who can absorb one otherwise fatal attack for you.
Grigoire Boss Guide
Next, we have Grigoire, found in the Hall of Penitent located south of Ked Bardu.
To summon Grigoire, you’ll need 5 Living Steel. Living Steel can be obtained from the Tortured Gift of Living Steel chests in Hell Tide, which typically provide five, with a chance for 10.
Alternatively, you can obtain Living Steel from other Hell Tide chests, Elites, local events, treasure goblins, Whisper Caches, Hellborn, or the blood maiden.
Summoning Tormented Grigoire
For a tormented Grigoire, you’ll need:
- 15 Living Steel
- 2 Stig Stones
Grigoire drops the Shard of Agony. He always drops one when summoned, with a chance to drop two.
He is one of the tougher tormented bosses in Diablo 4, especially in early encounters when you’re still gearing up. Let’s break down his essential mechanics, run through the fight, and wrap up with farming tips and material drops.
At the start of the fight, Grigoire electrifies the floor tiles. It starts from the corners and moves to the center, so make sure you’re not standing where the tiles will light up—it can be a one-shot KO in higher difficulties like Torment 4.
The pattern is Corner Middle Center, so stay alert and avoid lethal areas.
Once in the center, Grigoire uses his mace for basic attacks: either a series of strikes or one heavy swing with a knockback. Early on, this knockback is manageable, but it becomes more hazardous as elemental hazards are introduced later.
Duriel Boss Guide
Duriel resides in the Gaping Crevice, located east of Gayol. Summoning Duriel requires:
- 2 Mucus-Slick Eggs (from Varshan or World Bosses)
- 2 Shards of Agony (from Grigoire or World Bosses)
For the tormented version, gather:
- 6 Mucus-Slick Eggs
- 6 Shards of Agony
- 2 Stig Stones
At the start, you won't face Duriel directly. Instead, two of his minions, called "Pangs of Duriel," will emerge, firing a nova of poisonous projectiles. Ignoring these can be risky, so confront them immediately.
When you first encounter these minions, one may try to escape by diving into the ground—there’s little you can do about it at that moment. However, later in the fight, chasing them down before they disappear becomes crucial.
Pangs of Duriel will continue to spawn at certain health thresholds, and below 20% health, Duriel will occasionally summon more to aid him.
As the fight progresses, Duriel will occasionally raise his claws, causing maggots to rain down. These maggots are easy to eliminate and don’t do much damage, so use area-of-effect (AOE) skills to clear them. But be mindful of Duriel himself during this phase, as his damage is no joke.
Once Duriel’s health drops below 80%, he gains access to his most dangerous ability: a powerful charge attack. During this charge, he flails his claws wildly, dealing serious damage to anyone caught at the end of his path.
Zir Boss Guide
Zir is found in the Darkened Way, east of Kashad. Once inside, head to the Ancient Seat.
To summon Zir, you’ll need 9 Exquisite Blood, which you can find during Legion Events, from the blood maiden in the Hell Tide, World Bosses, Elites, local events, goblins, Whisper Caches, and Hellborn.
For a tormented Zir, stock up on:
- 27 Exquisite Blood
- 2 Stig Stones
Zir drops Sand Scorch Shackles, required for summoning Andariel.
For the fight, occasionally, Lord Zir will hunch down, flap his wings, and unleash a rain of blood projectiles across the arena. Avoid the landing spots and puddles, which sometimes move and interact with his other abilities, but aren’t a major threat initially.
Lord Zir rears up, creating two massive claws of blood that slash across the screen. This is one of his highest-damage moves, so squishier characters should move behind him to evade it.
After his health drops below 66%, Lord Zir teleports, charging up a Wing Blast that deals knockback damage. A telegraph appears on the ground to show where it will land, giving you a chance to move out of harm's way.
As Lord Zir’s health depletes, the arena’s environmental hazards intensify, increasing the challenge. There are a few things to watch out for:
- Blood Puddles
These puddles gradually move and can merge. They may also emit projectiles inflicting Vulnerable, so keeping a safe distance is advisable. The puddles do eventually dissipate after firing. - Blood Orbs
When Zir loses 20% of his health, he summons Blood Orbs, which persist throughout the fight. These either call in minions or emit blood waves across the arena. The minions are great for triggering on-kill effects, while the waves are best dodged by keeping clear of Blood Orbs. - Blood Seekers
Occasionally, Zir will summon Blood Seekers, which can crowd-control you, adding more pressure to the battle. Take these down swiftly to keep the arena manageable. - Empowered Blood Rain
Below 60% health, Lord Zir’s blood rain becomes even deadlier, causing all blood pools to emit Vulnerable-inflicting projectiles. Avoid close proximity to the pools during this phase and watch for patterns to dodge effectively.
Beast in the Ice Boss Guide
The Beast in the Ice is summoned differently than the other bosses. Head to Notist to craft a Nightmare Dungeon. First, collect Distilled Fear, available from Tier 30+ Nightmare Dungeons, Elites, goblins, events, Whisper Caches, Hellborn, and the blood maiden.
Once you’ve gathered 9 Distilled Fear and 250 Sigil Powder, craft the Glacial Fissure Tier 31 Sigil at Notist. This creates a regular version of the Beast in the Ice. For the tormented version (Tier 96), you’ll need:
- 27 Distilled Fear
- 250 Sigil Powder
- 2 Stig Stones
Once you activate the sigil, head to Glacial Fissure south of Kashad. No altar needed—the Beast in the Ice awaits you in the boss chamber.
Defeating the Beast yields an Awakened Glyph Stone and a Pin Cushion Doll, both needed for summoning Andariel.
Before facing the Beast in Ice, stop by the Alchemist and grab an elixir of cold resistance, as this boss inflicts significant cold damage. When you reach the Glacial Fissure, clearing out the smaller enemies beforehand is optional but may make the fight smoother.
The Beast in Ice has three phases, with intermissions at 66% and 33% health. With each phase, the Beast gains new abilities or powers up existing ones.
Phase 1
- Melee Slashes with Ice Crystals
The Beast’s slashes release ice crystals that explode into shards upon impact. While the initial crystals are easy to dodge, the smaller shards can be trickier. If you’ve maxed out your cold resistance, taking a few hits from these shards shouldn't be too dangerous. - Icy Breath
This attack spreads multiple ice crystals across the arena that shatter, releasing shards in all directions. Standing behind or away from the Beast will help you avoid this move. - Roaring Sword Slam
The Beast slams its sword multiple times, creating pools on the ground. Move to the side or behind the boss to avoid the slams and pools. - Leap Attack
The Beast leaps, dealing area damage and releasing a wave of ice crystals that explode outward. This can be challenging to dodge, so consider using a defensive skill or cold resistance potion to tank the damage if needed.
The Beast retreats temporarily, summoning smaller enemies. Focus on eliminating them while watching for strafing ice attacks indicated by lines on the ground. These attacks can knock you into the outer storm, dealing heavy damage, so stay near the center and move to safe zones.
Phase 2
- Sword Channel with Icy Explosions
The Beast plants its sword, releasing a series of four icy explosions targeted at your position. Move in an arc to avoid each wave, and use a source of Unstoppable if you risk being frozen by the attacks. - All Phase 1 Abilities
The Beast continues to use all abilities from Phase 1, so stay alert and use your experience from the first phase to dodge or tank appropriately.
Similar to the first intermission, dodge the strafing attacks and take out the smaller enemies. Position carefully to avoid being knocked into the storm.
Phase 3
- Empowered Sword Channel
The Beast enhances its Phase 2 channel ability, creating a second wave of icy explosions. After dodging the initial wave, stay alert for the second spread of ice shards. - Perpetual Blizzard & Strafing Runs
The outer edges of the room are engulfed in a constant blizzard, making movement and positioning critical. The Beast will occasionally perform strafing runs, so staying near the center and using Unstoppable or defensive skills as needed will keep you safe.
Andariel Boss Guide
Andariel is found in the Hanged Man’s Hall, east of Tarak. Summoning her requires:
- 2 Sand Scorch Shackles (from Zir)
- 2 Pin Cushion Dolls (from Beast in the Ice)
To summon her tormented version, gather:
- 6 Sand Scorch Shackles
- 6 Pin Cushion Dolls
- 2 Stig Stones
Andariel will start with some heavy-hitting moves and try to trap you with chains. Avoid her initial attacks and don’t panic if the chains restrict your movement; patience is key.
Watch out for her primary attack, which releases a blood splatter effect that hits hard. If she’s performing this move, it’s best to stay patient, avoid it, and wait until you’re free to resume attacking.
When she finishes her blood splatter, look for an open spot to land some hits. Even if the chains still restrict you, keep attacking her—she’ll eventually disappear, giving you time to focus on breaking the chains.
Moving around is essential, but avoid being overly aggressive. When she pops back up and goes for the blood splatter attack, that’s your cue to deal some damage. Keep your attacks controlled and wait for openings.
At a certain point, Andariel will drop to her knees. This is when you unleash your heaviest attacks for maximum damage. Once she gets up, her attacks will evolve a bit, making her more aggressive with the chains.
