The Barbarian class in Diablo 4 is a favorite among fans of the game. It’s been around since the first game and it’s so good to see how this brute of a character has evolved throughout the years. If you want a tanky character that can last longer than most classes in the middle of a horde, the Barbarian class is definitely for you.
As easy as it is to use, you can still spend a lot of time hacking your way through levels 1-50 of the game. As such, this guide will help reach your Paragon board in the most optimal time possible.
Before talking about the build though, let’s talk about Diablo 4’s Barbarian class and what makes it special.
Diablo 4 Barbarian Class Overview
The Barbarian class has always been known for their brute strength and relentlessness in battle. It’s the perfect class to choose if you prefer an all-out melee play style for your playthrough of Diablo 4.
If you’ve played the class in Diablo 3, you can expect the same playstyle here. The Barbarian features a unique resource called Fury. It depletes naturally outside of battle but using basic attacks will fill up your Fury. This is required to use more powerful abilities. With this mechanic, the Barbarian class is all about being aggressive and upfront.
The unique class mechanic of the Barbarian is the Arsenal System. It lets you carry up to four weapons at once. Additionally, you can assign weapons to specific Skills that you currently own. You’re not able to freely equip whichever you want. Instead, you need the following weapon setup:
1x two-handed bludgeoning weapon
1x two-handed slashing weapon
2x one-handed weapons which are dual-wielded.
Weapon-wise, the Barbarian has the largest arsenal of weapons including two-handed axes, two-handed maces, two-handed swords, polearms, hammers, maces, axes, and swords.
Another unique Barbarian mechanic is the ability to become more experienced with each weapon class. Increasing a weapon class’ Expertise will unlock special buffs so for Barbarian, sticking to specific weapons is beneficial.
Here’s a look at the Expertise rewards for each weapon.
Diablo 4 Barbarian Quick Levelling Build
This Barbarian quick leveling build focuses on helping you unleash heavy damage on waves of enemies while making sure that you’re tanky enough to sustain damage. This is going to be important as quick leveling means going through some tough dungeons and World Events.
This build focuses on helping you maintain a steady amount of Fury as you go through waves and waves of enemies. It also relies heavily on buffs that you get for doing specific things in the game.
Another thing worth noting about this build is that it’s very aggressive. When choosing your equipment, focus more on getting armor that increases your health and armor. You can get a lot of damage buffs from the Barbarian’s passive already anyway.
Here’s an overview of the abilities you’ll need and why it matters.
Active Abilities
Frenzy - This is arguably the best out of all the basic skills of the Barbarian. The attack speed bonus makes it easy to inflict stun or bleed on opponents too. With Enhanced Frenzy, you’re getting a steady means to replenish your Fury. Adding Combat Frenzy provides a layer of survivability to the build.
Hammer of the Ancients - As a core skill, Hammer of the Ancients is particularly helpful when you’re dealing with huge mobs. The passive upgrades, Enhanced Hammer of the Ancients, and Furious Hammer of the Ancients are important so that your Fury replenishes steadily while giving you an extra damage boost.
Rallying Cry - While innately durable, you’ll still need a few survivability skills for the Barbarian. One of the best that you can get early on is Rallying Cry. The base upgrade helps increase your movement speed and Fury regeneration. Enhanced Rallying Cry and Tactical Rallying Cry further boost your Fury and survivability. It also helps that this can provide a buff to nearby allies too.
Leap - This brawling skill is useful offensively and defensively. It can be used to get out of trouble, but it can also be used to engage enemies. It’s perfectly paired with Rallying Cry. Since Leap is going to be a crucial survival ability, make sure to use it wisely.
Death Blow - Dealing with Bosses and Elites. It’s a crucial ability to have if you’re planning on doing some of the best XP farms in the game. The Enhanced Death Blow and Warrior’s Death Blow upgrades make this ability even more lethal thanks to the buffs and Berserking effect.
Passive Abilities
Pit Fighter - Pit Fighter is the most important passive ability in a Barbarian’s arsenal. Keep in mind that you’re always going to be front and center. This helps you deal with crowds up close while ensuring that you stay safe from ranged enemies.
Tempered Fury - Fury management becomes more challenging as you unlock more abilities. Tempered Fury gives you that extra oomph on the field.
Furious Impulse - You’ll be swapping out your weapons frequently as a Barbarian, especially once you allocate your skills to them. Thanks to this passive, you’ll get a Fury boost each time you swap weapons.
Walking Arsenal - This increases your damage significantly, simply by attacking. You get up to a 35% boost in damage for all of your weapons with this passive.
Hamstring - Frenzy helps you constantly inflict bleed on enemies. Hamstring slows enemies you inflict bleed on so it definitely helps with crowd control.
No Mercy - This increases your critical strike chance against enemies who are slowed, stunned or vulnerable. It partners well with Hamstring and Frenzy.
Expose Vulnerability - Since Death Blow is a vital skill of a Barbarian, getting this passive means even more damage potential for Hammer of the Ancients.
Swiftness - Adding movement speed bonuses to a Barbarian is important as it helps you get out of sticky situations immediately. Alternatively, it can help you chase down enemies who are far.
Thick Skin - This helps improve a Barbarian’s survivability immensely. It’s especially helpful when you finally increase your World Tier and the enemies become tougher.
Counteroffensive - Thick Skin gives you Fortify and this passive gives you a damage bonus for having that effect active. It makes you even more unstoppable against huge hordes.

Early Game Tips For Barbarians In Diablo 4
Play With Friends
Being near a player nets you a 5% XP bonus while being in a party with a friend gives you 10% XP bonus. Needless to say, this is one of the best ways to speed up the leveling process early on in the game.
Do A Ton Of World Events
World Events are some of the easiest ways to level up quickly. There’s one just south of Kyovashad. This lets you in on some vital Murmuring Obols and a ton of XP from elites. Since the area is near Kyovashad, it’s easy to walk to and from it to grind for XP.
Don’t Waste Time On Your Equipment
Your first hours in the game should just be focused on leveling your character to 50. It’s not wise to focus on loot farming because you’re bound to get better loot once you reach World Tier 3. For now, just focus on XP grinding and some dungeons that reward you with good Aspects for your Barbarian.
Craft XP Potions
Once you reach level 10, you can unlock the Alchemist feature. Focus on crafting XP potions to make leveling faster. For Barbarians, the best potion is the Weak Ironbarb Elixir. It nets you a 5% XP bonus, 100 armor, and 50 thorns for 30 minutes. To make it, you need 5 Gallowvines and 5 Biteberries.
Hack Your Way To Level 50
The Barbarian class is a good choice for beginners because of how easy it is to use them. This build can help you rampage through the early levels of the game as fast as possible. More challenges await you once you go beyond level 50 and beat the game so master your skills as early as now.
