If you don’t have the time to farm for gold, then you should first check out our D4 store at RPGStash. We’ve got excellent deals on D4 gold, resources, and other items that will get you stronger as quickly as possible. Now, on to our guide.
With Season 6 well underway and players diving deep into the Vessel of Hatred expansion, there’s one thing that always comes up: crafting and upgrading bottlenecks.
There’s always that one specific material or currency every season that seems to drop in much lower quantities than you need to actually craft.
This results in seasons where people have zero gold because gold is the bottleneck, or, conversely, billions of gold with no way to spend it because materials are scarce. It’s part of the nature of a game like Diablo 4—there's no perfect balance.
Things never quite drop evenly according to what you need to spend. But once we identify the issues, it’s time to talk about how to fix them.
Gold and Forgotten Souls in Season 6
In Season 6, the issue was originally Angel's Breath—until a hotfix from the devs made it drop more frequently from Elite enemies. But once you dig deeper into the endgame, you’ll find that the bottleneck is now both gold and Forgotten Souls.
Forgotten Souls drop too infrequently from their intended farms, and while gold is more abundant, it has a lot of active sinks this season.
Not only is Masterworking more expensive than before (though it was costly before), but gem creation now costs 10 million gold per gem, along with 30 Forgotten Souls.
While Masterworking prices haven't increased drastically, the drop rate of gold has dropped a bit compared to last season, putting us in a bit of a limbo when it comes to upgrading gear. That said, there are specific ways to increase the amount of gold and Forgotten Souls you can gather—while it won’t solve all your problems instantly, it’s the best we’ve got right now.
Best Gold Farms in Diablo 4 Season 6
There are three primary ways to farm gold this season:
Whispers of the Deadhand in Caches
Whispers of the Dead objectives have been updated to provide more valuable rewards, especially ones that give five Grim Favors at a time. There are now also five Grim Favor objectives that require killing ladder bosses, which are quick and efficient. In addition, there’s the chance of two Hell Tides being up at once—one in the Hells area and one in the base game regions. This means you can complete two sets of five Grim Favor Blood Maiden kills in a single Hell Tide window.
Opening caches from Whispers yields solid rewards, particularly the Whispers Cache of Gold, which is a new feature this season.
Generally, non-legendary caches will give a few million gold, with the highest rewards (up to 5 million gold) coming from torment 4. Legendary caches can give 10 million gold or more.
Infernal Hordes
Infernal Hordes are the best method for gaining experience, so if you’re farming Paragon levels, you’ll be doing this anyway.Infernal Hordes also drop Masterworking materials and other crafting materials, but the main gold farming opportunity is the gold chest at the end. Dumping all your Ather into this chest gives a decent conversion rate to gold.
Some argue that this is a waste compared to using Ather for Masterworking materials, but if you’re specifically lacking gold, this is a great way to farm it while still working on your Paragon levels.
The conversion rate improves as you increase the difficulty tier of the activity, so aim for a difficulty level where you consistently gather at least 500 Ather or more. If you can get 1,000 Ather in a single run, you'll be swimming in gold in no time.
Trading
Trading is another excellent way to gather gold quickly. Whether through the in-game trade chat or external trading websites, you can offload high-value items like unique or ancestral gear for gold.Legendary runes, especially Lith Runes, can go for up to 200 million gold on the high end. If you have gear that’s popular with classes like Spirit Born (the most popular class this season), such as an ancestral amulet with armor percent gain, you can sell it for upwards of 500 million gold.
Though trading might feel like a hassle, it can be highly profitable if you target items that are in demand this season.
Best Forgotten Soul Farms in Diablo 4
Next, we need to talk about Forgotten Souls, which are a massive bottleneck in the endgame. As more players reach endgame, they’ll realize that Forgotten Souls are in short supply.
It takes 30 Forgotten Souls to craft a single max-level gem, and you'll need at least seven gems for your gear—more if you're playing a class like Barbarian, which requires a lot of weapon gem slots.
Resetting your Masterworking roles costs five Forgotten Souls per reset, and depending on your luck, you could end up resetting 10 to 20 times just to get one item to 8 out of 12.
Forgotten Souls are also needed for tempering and imprinting costs, so you’ll be spending these constantly.
There are two main sources of Forgotten Souls:
Hell Tide Chests
Opening Hell Tide chests is one of the best ways to farm Forgotten Souls. The most efficient chests are the 75 Cinder cost chests that drop armor or rings. On Torment 4, these chests usually yield about three Forgotten Souls per chest, with larger chests offering more. While you can also target specific items from Hell Tide, the primary goal is to farm Forgotten Souls as quickly as possible.
Difficulty Tier Swapping
There’s an unintentional (or possibly intentional) trick that involves swapping difficulty tiers. You can farm Cinders on a low-tier difficulty (like Torment 1) and then switch to a higher tier (like Torment 4) to open your Hell Tide chests. This way, you can gather Cinders quickly and then reap the rewards of higher-tier chests, which drop better items and more Forgotten Souls.
Additionally, the Whispers of the Dead activity seems to be following the same pattern. You can complete the Grim Favor objectives in a lower-tier difficulty and then switch to a higher difficulty to hand in the objectives for better rewards.
Ladder Boss Kills
Ladder Bosses also have a chance to drop Forgotten Souls. While not guaranteed, if you're already farming these bosses for targeted uniques or Mythic gear, you'll also accumulate Forgotten Souls. This is not a specific farm for Forgotten Souls, but it’s another way to gather them while pursuing other goals.
Summary of Best Gold Farms In Diablo 4 Season 6
Here are some of the best gold farming methods, complete with estimated gold per hour (GPH) for each technique. These methods rely on a variety of farming activities, from completing events to trading valuable materials.
1. Undercity - Tributes of Titans
GPH: 7.5 Billion
The top method for farming gold is completing Tributes of Titans in the Kurus Under City. Here’s how it works:
- How to Farm: Use your Tributes of Titans (acquired by killing tormented bosses) to run the Kurus Under City.
- Average Time per Run: 2 minutes per run, which means you can complete 30 runs per hour.
- Gold per Run: After completing the runs, you'll drop roughly 500 boss summoning materials (Steel blood, Fear Hearts, Egg Shards, and Shekels), which can be sold for 7.6 billion gold per hour.
- Bonus Tip: Don't forget to use Seizing Opals of Torment to increase your drops, boosting your earnings up to 3.5 billion gold per hour.
2. Undercity - T1 Runes Farming
GPH: 3.5 Billion
For a slightly more accessible farming method, Undercity Rune Farming is a solid choice. You can farm this on Torment 1 difficulty, which is great for most players.
- How to Farm: Use your Tributes of Harmony to run the Undercity on Torment 1. The area will drop three magic runes per run, and you’re aiming for six different types of magic runes.
- Average Time per Run: 2 minutes per run.
- Gold per Run: You can earn up to 3.5 billion gold per hour from selling magic runes, not to mention any extra rare or legendary runes you might find.
- Bonus Tip: Again, Seizing Opals of Torment can improve your drop rates.
3. Helltide - Living Steel
GPH: 2.0 Billion
Helltide events can be incredibly profitable if you focus on farming Living Steel.
- How to Farm: During a Helltide, open all chests and sell off the Living Steel.
- Gold per Hour: A full Helltide run can yield roughly 2 billion gold per hour. This calculation excludes any goblin drops, so if you're lucky with goblins, you can earn even more.
- Bonus Tip: Be sure to interact with Doomsayers you encounter, as they can summon Treasure Goblins, which drop more valuable materials.
4. Realmwalker Events - Goblins
GPH: 2.0 Billion
Realmwalker events have received a recent patch, which gives them a low chance to summon Treasure Goblins. This can be a great way to get extra materials and boss summoning items.
- How to Farm: Participate in Realmwalker events, and you’ll have a chance to get materials from Goblins. The final boss room often drops additional boss materials as well.
- Gold per Hour: You can expect around 2.36 billion gold per hour from goblin drops and boss material collection.
- Bonus Tip: Use Seizing Opals of Torment to boost your material yield.
5. Worldbosses - Boss Mats
Gold per Kill: 250 Million
Worldbosses are another quick source of boss materials, especially when the gold curse spawns multiple treasure goblins.
- How to Farm: Take part in Worldboss fights. These bosses drop a lot of materials and have the potential to spawn goblins for extra loot.
- Gold per Run: A typical Worldboss fight can net you around 250 million gold per kill. These fights are fast (around 2 minutes), making them a great gold farming activity.
- Bonus Tip: You can also get rare tributes that are useful for additional farming.
6. Mercenary Bartering - Boss Mats
Gold per 1K Pale Marks: 250 Million
The Mercenary Bartering system is a passive gold farming method.
- How to Farm: Collect Pale Marks from your mercenaries and exchange them for boss summoning caches, which you can sell for gold.
- Gold per 1K Pale Marks: You can earn around 250 million gold per 1,000 Pale Marks by selling the summoning caches.
- Bonus Tip: Skip over any other rewards like aspect caches that don't provide a significant gold return.
7. Whisper Caches - Boss Mats + Raw Gold
GPH: 1 Billion (with trading)
Farming Whisper Caches is one of the most profitable methods, especially if you’re looking to farm raw gold.
- How to Farm: Focus on PVP and Helltide Whisperers for fast, efficient runs. You can also farm Tormented Bosses, Infernal Hordes, and Nightmare Dungeons.
- Gold per Hour: Farming Whisper caches can earn you up to 1 billion gold per hour if you trade the boss materials and runes you gather. If you’re focusing just on raw gold, expect around 100 million per hour.
- Bonus Tip: For Nightmare Dungeons, use the stash system to find specific dungeons and complete them efficiently in about 2 minutes per run.
8. Infernal Hordes - Raw Gold - 50-100M GPH
If you're looking to farm raw gold, Infernal Hordes might catch your attention, but let's be clear: it’s not the most efficient way. The gold gain per hour here is minimal, so we don’t highly recommend it.
However, if you’re still set on trying it out, aim for 10 waves of Infernal Hordes each time. This will give you the best ether-to-time ratio, with a potential yield of 50-100 million gold per hour, depending on your ether gain.
9. Full Trade Session: Selling Materials for 20B+ Gold
